Due to the rapid, heavy inflation we are experiencing, there will likely be some increase in fur prices, but it likely won't be enough to make trapping more than a fun hobby for most of us. If you can't make at least $25.00 an hour, plus expenses, it's really not worth doing anything like work, unless you really enjoy doing it.

With covid still causing problems I think everything will go even lower. The end of the ranch mink sales in July were off a good ten bucks from the beginning of the season.

Yes probly lower prices, inflation prices we'll likely not mean that fur prices we'll go up like everthing else u buy, groenwold update at nta convention the vid, was talking about trouble ranch mink market that happen 2-3 months ago an of containers or sea freight , has to have dress in Cambodia bfore get into china an pelts in containers have to be tested for covid ? I don't understand how a coon pelt could carry covid on container in ocean freight that been there for weeks maybe ? I guess that is there laws in china , Something like that , sounds like expensive shipping an major hassale get china, also something about Russians have alternatives to fur an not buy much for raccoon , an market is very volutiable , I not optimistic on any fur prices, rats for size, barely ok prices but get lots rats there are not that many

My advice to you would be not to trap raccoon. Trapping a few rats for fun would be ok but you need to look at trapping like you would going to the casino. Do not spend any more money on gas, supplies than you can afford to loose. It is that simple. If you think things are bad, well, they can and may get worse. There is no money to be made trapping coon for the fur period. Having said that I am certain you will still trap coon and loose money. LLL

If you can't make at least $25.00 an hour, plus expenses, it's really not worth doing anything like work, unless you really enjoy doing it. Not many here have even that high a paying job, if they knew they could get pay for regular employment like that, they would move there !! I will be buying nice prime full furred coyotes this season to add to my inventory, won't be a lot and only the best with paws on and cleaned up good, but the price I pay will be good until I see people trying to take advantage of me not being able to see the put up. Not going to say how many or give a price out yet either, just the notice is enough to make others think about it. Been doing this long enough that a persons good work is easily seen in a decent picture. Yes it's a chance I take and I have already lined up some previous sellers that I trust, they seem ok with my price compared to what was being paid last year for well put up nicely furred dogs, will be using them first as well. Food for thought for those who only can get a few nice dogs a year, or they wish to get a great price for their kids fur, I'm always trying to bring more youth into our craft !! There is nothing quite like seeing a kid with their first catch getting good dollars for it !
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

Nothing happening on the world stage give any support for and meaningful market increases in the type of fur you harvest Dave.
Maybe, maybe we'll see a slight bump in rat prices this year but there isn't a buyer worth his salt that will predict it.

I think rats well be at most as high last season , maybe slightly less, mink finally brought a $5 average last season , female , male, early an late , $4 on female, $6 on male, all mink, rats brought in low $4, -$8 beaver ,$7.30 coon , possum were $2
