I found this deer on my long gravel drive today. Looks shot to me but could a bird make this hole? I called the agent, that was about worthless he said take pictures send them to me and drop a pin on it and that'll be good enough. Like he wasn't going to come out. I know he hasn't been here today and I called him at 9am. I was not to happy about that. I put 4 cameras up I'm gonna find out who is coming on the road. No one should be on the road so i hope they come back and I can figure out who it is. I know a deer can go along way with that wound but I know this doe she has 1 eye I see her in that bean field every night 20 yards from where she is laying now. The deer are wreeking havoc on those beans so I sure hope it's not the farmer.

Maybe jumping a fence or a sharp stick or ??? I wouldn't jump to conclusions, any number of things could cause that hole.

the cranberry growers south of me gut shoot them because the damage control permits require you to salvage the meat --- just sayin. if you cant find them you cant salvage.

No bird did that. If the agent won't come out, do your own autopsy. Each county is supposed to have 2 agents.

I left both a message one called back. I sent them both the pictures and location. You think they would at least show there faces so It looks like they were at least trying. I would understand if it was opening day of duck season or deer season and they were swamped but this should not be a busy time of the year for them.

killing deer for crop damage is no different than killing a possum in a chicken coop

This is my worry.

Farmers in my area used to do the same thing, gut shoot them so they'd run off and die and they didn't have to deal with them.

Eh...wot?

Rest assured, something will eat it. Still sad though, but Danny is right, no different than throwing a summer coyote in the ditch.

Sorry guy's but I would like to see the buck season halted for a year or to and just have a doe season. But will never happen because of the big buck the States make of deer season. JMO

I would have to disagree on that one. Alot of guys only trap to help deer and turkey population. I doubt coyote is nearly as edible as a deer. So your not going to save it or donate it to a good cause. I use to help my dad farm 1500 acres and we planted 4 diffrent duck clubs. You have to look at it like a whisky distiller. I think they call it the angels share? Critters are going to eat part of their crops this is not a new problem. They should plan on some loss. I think going out and shooting deer over it is being a poor Stewart of nature. It would be diffrent if there were so many deer in the area they were dieing of a disease like distemper when the coons get so over populated. This is not the case around here. Yes we have deer but not nearly the numbers we did.

Anyone that thinks it's ok to intentionally gut shoot an animal and let it wander off, suffer, and go to waste just plain disgusts me! Repugnant!

If a farmer has excessive damage and needs relief there are legal and ethical remedies. The deer can be killed in a humane manner according to state quidelines and the meat salvaged and provided to hungry families.

"Mind your own business" indeed! This should be every honorable man's business. There are two types of illegal behavior - Mala Prohibita = bad because because government says so, and Mala In Se = bad in and of itself (morally wrong). This (if it was intentionally gutshot - which it appears to be) is definitely the later! Anyone that condones it should be doing some soul searching.

And it's totally inexcusable that the conservation officers didn't even show up. It would take all of thirty seconds to skin back to the hole to verify if it was shot. I would file a complaint with their director. I retired five years ago after thirty years as a CO in Utah - and I just can't take apathy toward those types of wildlife crimes. Done venting.

I'm not condoning it, just saying it won't go to "waste" something will eat it...poaching isn't a good thing.

Probably one of them farmers who claim crop damage, and doesn't allow hunters onto their property or asks "what's it worth to you?" when asking permission to hunt.
