What’s the minimum high temp needed for using the sun to wax dirt? I waited too long and I missed the high 90s. Tomorrow supposed to be high of 90.

I don't know what the temp needs to be but I have made it well into Sept in clear plastic tubs in Ohio. You should have time to get it done in MO. Good luck

A clear, sunny, 90 degree day should be fine.

I always do it in 90 degree or above especially when the sun is higher in the sky in July and first part of August.

I tried a couple days ago and it was 92. It was very smoky and it wouldn’t melt. I’m looking to borrow some heat lamps from my neighbor now. Made 50 gallons in July on a 102 degree day just on black tarps. Smoke really seemed to affect it.

I tried it yesterday as well and our temp, because of smoke, only made it to mid 80's. The wax didn't melt at all. I checked out temps to melt and minimum was about 120, but I'm sure direct sun and 90's should do it. Like others, I missed our 100's back in July. That's what I get for procrastinating.

I admire you guys' concern about the environment and climate change by going with solar power. Me, not so much, as I burn electricity in the mixer while burning LP in the torch.

Same here. Much faster and never a bad batch.

I use a grill and a big roasting pan but I only use about 15 gallons a year

I was thinking of using my weed burner and a big metal stock watering pan.

I use an earth way box I found on the hiway an also a kiddy pool covered with old framed storm windows. 85+ an a bright sunny day does an excellent job in not very long

Just put a sheet of clear plastic over the dirt. 75 degrees outside will be > 115 inder the plastic. By far the best if u can get the whole works off the ground.
