Drove to the wildlife range today to check my 7-08 Model 700 rifle. Fired a three shot group, then waited for the range master to take the range cold. Went to the 100 yard line and checked my target. I fired three shots but had five holes. Marked the holes with a pen and returned to the bench. Fired a seven-shot group. Went to check my group and found that instead of ten holes in my target there were now nineteen.

Gave up and left. Maybe the idiot(s) shooting my target won't be there when I return next time. He is probably still trying to adjust his scope after checking his target.

I hate it when that happens. Some idiot can't line up to his own target.

After the first time maybe a word to the range master would have been appropriate.

When it's happened to me, I asked the guys on both sides if they were sure they were on the right target. One or the other always owned up to the mistake, and had been wondering where his own shots had gone.

sometimes an off color backer helps like red paper behind your target so that they can see it isn't the same as theirs

if everyone is shooting a white , black or tan target , break out the blaze pink sticker on a green background then the color blind won't even be able to see it

I suffered a bunch of near qualifying score targets ruined by someone next to me shooting my target

a card board box stapled to the target stand with the target in the back of it you may need to open up the top to let light in

anything to make it look different

I know a guy who shoots very high magnification , he is chasing a perfect 250 in competition he has hit 248 a few times , unfortunately shooting his neighbors target has happened , he now initials every bullseye on the target when he is all zoomed in he cans see about a foot if he doesn't see his initials he is on the wrong target

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Had a similar thing happen to me the other day. Pulled up to a public range with two benches, but only one of them has a seat. There were two other folks there, a guy and a gal. Waited for the other party to take a break, then asked if I could hang targets. The guy walked down-range with me so he could check his target. There was plenty of room, and I needed to shoot multiple rifles, so I hung two targets. Get back to the firing line after talking with the guy a bit, and he gets back to shooting. After another break, his gal loads up an AR and heads down-range to the 50 yard line. Lays prone and blasts off a mag. Don't know how she managed it, but she put holes in one of my fresh targets that was 3' away from hers. How can you possibly miss your target by 3', at 50 yards, laying prone? Some people...

Once, I shot a smiley face into the head of my friend's target, when we were shooting in lanes next to each other. When I finished, he put one into the forehead. I thought it was hysterical.

Was wearing an NRA baseball cap. The dude beside me was shooting a Russian assault rifle, but he was using open sites and shooting a 50-yard target. Fellow to my left was shooting a black splatter target and mine was white. Have no idea what was going on. A fourth person was shooting a black powder rifle.

Thats the reason I wont go to public ranges. the last time I went there were a bunch of 20 somethings there shooting their AK rifles at 7-10 yards, They were just blasting away hitting target frames etc.
It literally scares me every time. Between worrying about some person shooting you when you go hang targets, or stealing your stuff when you are hanging targets it is just too much anymore.
Im lucky that I have access to a small private range, it costs me about 200.00 a year to have access but the peace of mind is worth it.

That’s also why I don’t go to public ranges. At least they hit your target and not you

I’ve never had anyone shoot my target, but I did swap guns with a guy to give him confidence and so I could get his rifle sighted in, lol. Ole boy was on his second box of shells and no closer than he was when he started apparently.

Unfortunately, we have no private ranges here. At least our public range is well-regulated.

But the best range-master can't prevent the next guy from shooting holes in your target.
