I hate it when that happens. Some idiot can't line up to his own target.

When it's happened to me, I asked the guys on both sides if they were sure they were on the right target. One or the other always owned up to the mistake, and had been wondering where his own shots had gone.

sometimes an off color backer helps like red paper behind your target so that they can see it isn't the same as theirs
if everyone is shooting a white , black or tan target , break out the blaze pink sticker on a green background then the color blind won't even be able to see it
I suffered a bunch of near qualifying score targets ruined by someone next to me shooting my target
a card board box stapled to the target stand with the target in the back of it you may need to open up the top to let light in
anything to make it look different
I know a guy who shoots very high magnification , he is chasing a perfect 250 in competition he has hit 248 a few times , unfortunately shooting his neighbors target has happened , he now initials every bullseye on the target when he is all zoomed in he cans see about a foot if he doesn't see his initials he is on the wrong target

Had a similar thing happen to me the other day. Pulled up to a public range with two benches, but only one of them has a seat. There were two other folks there, a guy and a gal. Waited for the other party to take a break, then asked if I could hang targets. The guy walked down-range with me so he could check his target. There was plenty of room, and I needed to shoot multiple rifles, so I hung two targets. Get back to the firing line after talking with the guy a bit, and he gets back to shooting. After another break, his gal loads up an AR and heads down-range to the 50 yard line. Lays prone and blasts off a mag. Don't know how she managed it, but she put holes in one of my fresh targets that was 3' away from hers. How can you possibly miss your target by 3', at 50 yards, laying prone? Some people...

Thats the reason I wont go to public ranges. the last time I went there were a bunch of 20 somethings there shooting their AK rifles at 7-10 yards, They were just blasting away hitting target frames etc. It literally scares me every time. Between worrying about some person shooting you when you go hang targets, or stealing your stuff when you are hanging targets it is just too much anymore. Im lucky that I have access to a small private range, it costs me about 200.00 a year to have access but the peace of mind is worth it.

Unfortunately, we have no private ranges here. At least our public range is well-regulated.
But the best range-master can't prevent the next guy from shooting holes in your target.
