Do catalpa seedlings transplant well or is it better to just start from seed?
Thanks.

Stunning in the spring when in flower! and the worms make killer panfish bait!

I want some Catalpa trees just for the Catalpa worms. The Catalpa worms are definitely one of the best fish baits.

I have several Catalpa's I let grow just for that, but nary a worm in 43 yrs! Maybe I should be careful what I wish for.

You can buy the different life stages of Catalpa worms to get started on your trees, live, online.

Just stick a green limb into the ground and walk away. probably a 70% survival rate. Did it for years. The bigger the limb, the quicker they grow.

Catalpa is basically a weed tree. It’ll grow almost anywhere from any source. Larger specimens produce beautiful iridescent lumber.

I used to dig small catalpa trees from under established trees in the spring and transplant them at other locations. Most of them grew. It did take a few years for them to grow large enough to grow enough leaves to attract the the caterpillars of the catalpa sphinx moth (Ceratomia catalpa). for more information see- https://homeguides.sfgate.com/catalpa-pods-ripe-harvest-88085.html.

I'm like BigBob. My last catalpa worms left 20 years ago. I could only find pupa worms on Ebay. I have the trees just no worms. Great bait.

My neighbors had one cut down in their yard over a decade ago...after they got sick of cleaning up the mess it made. They cut, spray, hack and burn, but it keeps coming back. If nothing else, they're tough

It makes great stretcher boards. Got a buddy that has a whole bunch of them. A guy I worked with had his fish boxes that he kept fish in he caught in the river made from Catalpa. Said it wouldn’t rot like other wood, don’t know if that’s true, but he had some that he’d had a long time.
