Yep, fairy ring is what some call that. I think they get bigger each year as I see some in pastures and hay fields around here that get huge, like 50 yards or more across the circle. One of the strange yet beautiful things in nature.

From erupting spores I think. Not often seen in a complete circle. Happened on a calm day I am guessing.

Fairy ring from fairies dancing at night. Where their feet touched mushrooms pop up. If you stand in the center you can make a wish.

Actually it is where a piece of wood or other mushroom food started and the mycelium, mushroom roots, spread out in a circle, then again and again season after season. Over time fairy rings tend to increase in size.

If you choose the first option you must be very respectful and ask politely. Nothing more spiteful than offended wee folk.

All of the mushrooms in a fairy circle are attached to just one fungus. Mushrooms are just a tiny part of the fungus. Most of the fungus is underground. The mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of the fungus. The fungus produces the mushrooms on it's outside edge.

Some fungus, including some morels, are many miles across.

In many cases you can see them without the mushrooms. The fungi can be beneficial to the adjacent plants. Often the grass will be greener in a ring.

Numerous types of mushrooms can grow in rings, but the most common is Marasmius oreades which happens to be quite edible. I have no idea if thats what those are, but growing in a fairy ring doesn’t mean they’re poisonous.
