They are a beautiful fish and will grow to good size if given a chance with a good food source. I've seen 16"ers out of rich sandhill ponds/lakes.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

lol, everybody is spraying beans right now. We’ve had some rain and while fishing the water surface looked “chrome”. My math might be wrong but I’m not hungry enough to ignore it.

One of my favorites as well, although I find it challenging to consistently locate and catch them in numbers. We did have the Ontario record White Crappie (2.78 Lbs) caught about 30 minutes away from where I live and I have caught several over the 1 lb mark.
Just happy to be here.

18" is my best. Once.
A guy mentioned to his Dr about being exposed. The Doc called in a team of suits pronto. The guy would not tell farmers name, The suits quickly lost interest. The guy wonders the real motive lol.

Blame the farmers, they’re an easy target.
How about the Wicomico County waste water system or the landowners along the rivers edge who compete for the greenest lawn? Most of the planes you’re seeing now are spreading cover crops, mostly radish into standing corn. Maybe the occasional earworm/armyworm in soybeans.
I know what the planes are doing, are the 40ft booms in the beans planting cover crop? I can see I have offended some farmers on here, not my intent. There are residential properties along this creek but nobody is competing for green lawns, rusty vehicles or tractors on blocks maybe but not green lawns. lol Where I’m fishing is maybe half a mile from the end of the tide. Just a drop in a bucket in the big picture, I just happen to be fishing in the drop. lol

To me the is the most challenging fish to locate and then catch, unless you already have a few spots fixed up for them, then they still can be hard to catch. Next to Bluegill , crappie is the best tasting fish down here. I wud have chunked them back also. I know of three spots on the creek I can catch them on just about any given day. Only one that I can fish from shore and it has rarely left me empty handed.

Well something is causing the water to look like "chrome" or like an oil spill on surface ? And something is causing fish kills.Sure would be nice to find out what it is and cut it out ! During the 1980's most all the creeks an streams in my area had muskrats with bunches of underwater runs and holes. Now there is pretty much none.I realize that could be other reasons causing that.
But it's a darn shame to have fish as great tasting as crappie and be afraid that they are tainted and bad for human consumption ! I do know here that the DNR usually provides a booklet yearly that lists all of the states lakes, rivers streams, and res. and the fish they contain and if they are edible.Or if the fish are known to have levels of lead or mercury, etc in them then it lists that too.

Rusting Metal will sheen the water. I should mention that I have spoken with others fishing who have zero problem eating fish taken from that spot. It’s a favorite spot for snakeheads. I Just couldn’t do it. lol
