The nastiest engines I ever worked on were in trucks with amsoil stickers on them. Not sure of the owners never changed the oil, or if the oil was that bad. But those engines had sludge in them inches thick.

Wow that's wild.

Dstone, I'll look into them. My favorite is Shooters Lube but I'm open to try new stuff.

Amsoil is normally good stuff I just haven't tried this one yet it claims to have good corrosion resistance in salt test

my go to for so many things now is Hornady One Shot , cleaner and dry lube

especially pump guns seemed to get a little sticky in the action several months after cleaning and lubing them with CLP or ATF

with the dry lube they keep nice and slick and don't attract dust

One shot is great to hose all that carbon out of the Glock that builds up in the lower nice because it carries corrosion resistance and lube as it cleans

hot soap and water do a great job of cleaning , but then you need to get it all out and get lube and corrosion resistance back in

one shot is also good for firing pin channels

basically everything works and we are trying to change the cleaning and lube schedule to fit our desires

I know a guy who cleans his gun with WD-40 and has for 30 years , he also never knew it got gummy because he cleaned it every week so it never got to dry out

much of the stuff I work on gets to come out and play for a few weekends in the spring then sits in storage for 11 more months , also when you start getting into Volume cleaning , ways to reduce your time but also not add big cost , it adds up when your cleaning your 15th 22 rifle in a row even if they only take 7 minutes each your at almost two hours. if you have to repeat that in 11 months of storage that is an other 2 hours

Am I the only one that still uses the cheap 3in1 oil my Grandpa 55 years ago told me was the best gun oil around. Only thing I have ever used . Wipe the metal and wood down at the end of the season.

3in1 finished when cleaned and put away. Butches bore shine to remove.

Dri-slide when cleaned prepared for use. Alcohol delivery for graphite dry lube, slick as butter down to as cold as I’ve ever used a firearm. Comes in a squeeze bottle with needle tip or straw tipped aerosol.

you might be cause he was wrong

it does not displace water well

it is in the bottom 1/3 of 46 lubes compared

and it is in the near the bottom for rust prevention

Like I said anything works if you used enough of it often enough

3 in 1 coated metal rusts in 24 hours or less

it works because you keep your guns clean and dry and wipe them down after use

3 in 1 makes plane old WD-40 look good for lube and corrosion protection at 72 hours

i can spend a Dollar and ounce and get poor lubrication so I need more of it with 3 in 1, it gets sticky and dust clings to it or I can spend 1.15 and ounce on one shot be in the top 3 for lube , and corrosion resistance still going at 196 hours and because it lubes better I can use less of it.

I made a gallon of Eds Red home made gun oil formula. I then re bottled into several smaller jars for friends. It's all we use. Now I use it for general shop use. My rusted seized bolt and metal solvent is also homemade and cheap. 50% ATF and 50% Acetone, have found nothing better.

Pete is right, they all work. But some will outlast the others.

My modern guns get cleaned and then treated with Break Free CLP... But they tend to see use about once a week on average so regular use helps keep corrosion away.

My flintlocks get extra virgin olive oil... It's not any better than anything else but it works and the wife always keeps some on hand in the kitchen.

I'm familiar with that era. The claim was that all you needed to change was the filter. Bad idea.
I have always used their synthetic 2-cycle oil with good results.

G96 for me. Been using it since my days in L/E as an armorer, still used it when I wasrestoring old Winchesters. I've never been disappointed with the results, from first model year 1873 Winchesters to H & K MP5s.
