Has anyone had one done/how expensive is it?

what ground ?

point or drilled or dug ?

few places allow any dug wells any longer

done a few points , and digging a hole as deep as you could with a shovel then as deep as you could with a post hole digger then driving the point seemed to work the best it was just that many fewer feet of compressed soil to drive through and you don't need near as tall of a ladder to stand on

I've got the well just wanting to see if I can dig it any deeper.

From the places I’ve been in MO drilling seems like the only option it was one big gravel pit around Cole Camp.

Do it yourself sand point is about 1,000 but need water 25 feet or less.

Having a well drilled professionally for my new house, they said expect it to be 7,000 all in with pump etc.It will probably be around 80 to 100 foot deep

well drillers mostly charge a fee for setting over the same well, around here its around 400.00

Man I wish!!!! I'm about to have my well drilled for our new house. Going to be around $26,000 to $29,000. That is including the pump,

$1000 for a hand driven sand point? Does that price include a Gould pump, pressure tank, pipe, couplers and point? We just did one at a deer camp with used pitcher pump and came in at $350ish I guess prices vary by region. We got our goods from a Amish hardware. A sand point well can be over 25 feet, My cabin is 38 foot, but water came up pipe to 17 foot, it pumps fine. The leathers need changed yearly though. Sand points are very common in my area as the water down at 100 foot has iron.

Are you saying, 4 hundred set up fee, then so much to drill it out deeper?

Thats how it is around here, prices may have went up, was 10 years ago we had a driller come in set over an existing well and drilled it 200 ft. deeper, the charge was 400 bucks to set up and then so much per ft. to drill. they do that to make up for not being able to charge for casing which they don't use.

Dropping a weighted string down the well will tell you how deep it is. Also tell you how deep the water is in the pipe.

Sand points and shallow wells are for states with glacier till and sandy gravel over clay and deep bedrock. I have been places where driving a shallow well just wont work. Northern Michigan is good for shallow wells, but not everywhere. Now pollution from military and industry is a factor too.

The old home well we had, we dug it by hand. It was 5 feet across and 28 feet deep when we hit a vain of water from marrow clay.

We had a 32" ladder down the hole. A tripod overhead to bucket out the clay. We would work for 15-20 minutes then get out and another person worked.

When it was decided done, we dropped a 3 foot diameter, 3 feet tall crocks down. My dad made these with some forms. They sealed off from each other.

When we got about 4 crocks down, we dumped some river rock down and filled up to a height of about 10 feet. More crock until we got just above ground level about 2 feet.

After, dad made a lid with an access out the top for dropping a 1 1/2 inch pipe down for a pitcher pump. I think later he dug down about 6 feet and tapped a hole for the electric pump line exit.

That was over 55 years ago. The people who own it now use the water for their garden. Its hard.

Drilled a new 6 inch well this spring on my property. The driller charged $80/ft. drilled cased and capped. Drilled to three hundred feet depth and hit good water. I wrote him a check for $24000 and then $5500 for a company to drop a pump down to 220 feet and run a line and electrical to my house. The price is nearly doubled over the past two years. And with the building as crazy as it is out here in the west. It took us four months to find a driller who had time to do it.

I had an uncle and his family who lived in Greensburg, Kansas in the 1950s. The first time I remember visiting them, they took us to visit the site of what had serve as the community water supply for several years. Me, being about 12 years old was not really too impressed with a big hole in the ground. As I matured, I finally began to appreciate what our forefathers had accomplished. While I have visited Greensburg a few times in the 1960s and 1970s, I was never there when the visitor center was open.
