My septic system just turned 16 years old, Pumped every 3 years. Have grey water & washer water going in, Only paper, No wipes and try to keep kitchen grease away as much as possible. Always have that layer of hard soap on top when pumped. Had one go bad years ago, pipe clogged before the leach field in the middle of the lawn, snow on the ground & it looked like a S*** fountain.

I've also heard that Rid-X isn't good for the septic tanks too. Totally the opposite of what they advertise.

had mine pumped 3 years ago I think. I'll probably have it done again in a year or two. Getting that cleaned out every 4 or 5 years will double the life of your leach field or more.

We get ours pumped every two years, and so far the system has held up well. This year the first settling tank was filled to the very top with solids....I know I have been told I am full of it, but wow, even my enemies would say that was in excess of wildest expectations... That sounds like overkill to me. I use the right kind of single ply toilet paper and my tank has not been pumped out every since I placed it in1989.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

This thread needs more fiber and less cotton ponies...where is savell on this?! Having a room indoors dedicated to taking a dump, are not in the blueprints out there...Here in Michigan we are digging a new pit for the hunting camp 2 hole path bath!
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

It all depends on the junk people flush down their toilet. My dad just got his license for installing septic systems. Paper towels will do a number to your septic system. Sometimes simple stuff will make a mess of things. People need to use a little common sense with what they flush or dump down the drain. Septic people seem to be slammed with business one way or the other in my neighborhood.
