Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

I think Miscanthus grass, bamboo and similar invasive plants should be illegal to import or grow in the US. We are going to have tremendous problems when the bamboo stands become old enough to fruit. Birds will spread bamboo widely and millions will have to be spent to eradicate it. Miscanthus grass is already taking over parts of the Eastern US.

The so called sterile varieties of Miscanthus grass can still have as high as an 18% viable seed rate. The next generation, especially when exposed to other varieties, can have a very high viable seed rate.

The same thing happens with supposedly sterile varieties of fish, like the hybrid bluegill/green sunfish. The first generation is mostly sterile, but later generations revert back to highly fecund, smaller fish with mostly green sunfish attributes.

I have had miscanthus giganteus for over 10 years with none ever popping elsewhere. I've also had hybrid bluegill 20 years ago only to disappear after 2 years and only have bluegill ever since. No green sunfish.
