I would appreciate anyone’s input on my long chain beaver set up. This is my first year trying it.
Duke #5, center locater with a swivel, (10ft of chain total), 6 links of chain, JC Conner rod swivel, 12 links of chain, JC Conner rod swivel, 18 links of chain, JC Conner rod swivel, remainder of chain, JC Conner rod swivel and it will have a dual stake ring attached when they come in.

Hope you catch a lot of beaver.

That’s an expensive setup. grin

Thank you for the replies.

It’s my first year trying the long chain method and wasn’t sure.

I love trapping and love tinkering with stuff. Keeps me out of trouble with the wife, hehe.

I hope that these are still usable for my grandkids.

I do it as a hobby, and reinvest anything I make back into buying more stuff. Haha.

Can you tell me what makes them any better than anything else?

They are extremely easy to make.

I always wondered why people would rather have one swivel point than two like on an mb crunch proof

Thanks for the replies everyone.

“ I always wondered why people would rather have one swivel point than two like on an mb crunch proof “

This one of my reasons for asking if there was enough swivels.

I like the way they look and have been told they don’t load up with mud and grass like crunch proofs. This is just a hobby for me and the extra cost doesn’t bother me as I don’t have 100s of traps. Now someone running a large line probably wouldn’t want the hassle. I have one of the benders to make the sterling swivels, I just haven’t messed with it that much. Gonna learn to use it soon.

I only have 5-6 foot of chain for my coon drag setups and there are two swivels on those. How many you need with say 8-12 foot of chain I don't really know, but from my perspective a lot would depend upon the territory or area one traps. Spacing swivels throughout the chain makes sense to me. Especially if there are many places the animal can wrap the chain around larger objects. All the swivels below the last hang up place really become inoperable so having swivel points that are operable at many sections of the chain would be what I would consider.

I like them because they lay flat, and are easy to bed...They also seem to not clog in grass as much...Just one swivel point has not hurt one bit, IMO....YMMV.
