I don't have any advise on the wiring but there should be plenty of wiring harnesses out there for a reasonable price so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. This is good advice.

When I swap a D50 body I often need to swap the wiring out as the 4 WD and 2WD are not the same wirings. Start at one end mark every plug you unplug with masking tape and a marker that simplifies the “where the heck does this go” issues.
Make sure they are the same vehicles I found out the Mazda and Ranger pickups are the same trucks body wise but the wiring for the tail lights is totally different. The wiring loom is mostly laid out for you already somebody built it then you can replace it.

painters tape , a marker and a note book , lots of pictures
an OHM meter
you tube videos help also
I had to take a lot apart when I replaced the manifold , as I took things apart every connector got a label with tape and a note witht he label and what it's full name was in the note book, it really helped putting it all back together
if you just have some chewed wires and you can find both ends
solder , soldering iron , new wire many colors , heat shrink tube and a heat gun follow it mark the ends cut out the bad section , splice in new , heat srink it and when all is working well wrap in electrical tape

The reason they cant give you a quote is there isnt anyway to know the total scope of the job. It may be an hour job qbut it also could be a multiple day job. It would be a time + materials job with out even mentioning a possible cost for me to fix it. I would say a used harness is your best bet.

Chiltons or Haynes have wiring schematics in them towards the back. Most times they are very close and have saved me a lot of time and frustration. Once repaired shrink tube and tape will help to preserve the repair. Forget the crimp on connectors and solder the repair then shrink tube it.

If you get a replacement loom you don’t need to worry about anything but matching it plug for plug replace the old loom with the new one easy pessy

Yeah that's what I'm being told to try and find the Chiltons being the best apparently

I'd try to find a new/used loom. I once repaired wiring in a 94 Eldorado that had a fire at the master cylinder. Melted the entire harness where it goes through the fire wall. 97 connections later, I told him I never wanted to see that car again.
Get a good service manual, that'll have the schematics.
If you have to splice, use crimp connectors and heat shrink tubing. Get the correct crimper also. Honestly it's getting to the point this truck is just becoming a money sink and I'm worried is gonna be like that

If you need the vehicle, prices are stupid high right now, so fixing it might be the more affordable option. If I was closer, I'd jump to help, I kinda always liked wiring when I worked on cars.
