Hey guys so I bought a hot tent. It's my first ever hot tent I bought, and I bought a canvas one.
I also bought a wood stove and a sleeping pad too.
What are your thoughts on hot tent camping?

Looks nice. I love hot tenting but have only ever used portable fish houses. How portable is this one? What stove dod you go with

Instead of a pad I use a queen size air bed. Its on a frame with an air mattress. Air mattress will freeze you so I put an old sleeping bag on top of the air mattress to insulate me from it. Then the bag I am sleeping in on top of that. Very comfortable. You live in a tent for a couple weeks or a month you will get real tired of a pad. Its nice to be comfortable and get some good rest. When the fire goes out in your stove its instant cold. Tent will not hold heat. You can keep it warm but only so long as your feeding the fire. Takes a lot of fire/wood in cold weather. With the mattress inside that nylon cover leaks are not a problem. Heres a picture of my bed in its storage bag. ( yes I need to organize my closet. I will someday I suppose when my bride gets insistent enough)

P.S. your stove will draft just fine without all that pipe. Soon as the wind blows that will come down. You dont want hot stove pipe on your tent roof. 2-3 feet out the roof with a spark arrester will draft fine. Every couple days pull the spark aresster off and knock out the soot or it will plug up. A roof cover to prevent burn holes is a real good plan too. Whoever you bought the tent from probably sells one for that tent.

I never needed it but figured if I ever do I will need that fire extinguisher real bad. I keep a pelting knife close too in case I ever need to slice the tent open to get out.

I don't know much about them, but all that stove pipe sticking up looks like a disaster waiting to happen to me. I'd think wind would be pretty hard on that set up.

Play with your stove long before you go camping. I have a small stove in a ice house, I cut some green oak, ash and maple saplings 2 to 3 inch in diameter. Use those to hold a fire once you have it going. Every stove has a personality. 2 chunks of green, 1 chunk of green or 3. Get to know your stove and burn off the newness before setting in a tent.

Before the Alaska Tent and Tarp Arctic Oven I used their canvas wall tents. There were 2 different weights and the heavier weight held heat noticeably longer. Also they were fireproof canvas and used a metal pan under the stove to keep from burning the floor.

You will need to burn that stove off for a couple hours. The paint on it will smoke for hours inside a tent and choke you out. Same type princess auto sells.

I love to tent camp in the cold. Love it so much I usually set up one of my wall tents along a creek on one of the family farms. Leave it up all winter and go there every now and then.... lite the wood stove and just enjoy the moment. I'll stay on a few weekends. I make my own wood stoves. Right now I am kinda designing a way to heat my Cabelas Alaskan Guide tent with wood. No stove in the tent.... just outside the rainfly and hopefully I'll figure a way for the heat to flow into the tent by natural air movement. That tall stove pipe won't work in a big wind I wouldn't think. Last year in Colo the fires were bad so a fire

ban was on including wood stoves I was told. We left the stove at home and used propane infra red heaters. Worked but I sure did miss the wood stove heat. I've camped at dang near zero or below. Good luck learning on what will work and what won't.

I've winter camped in teepee 's one pole canvas tee pees , tents and tree pole leanto's never a stove. Yet

Double sleeping bags keep you warm one Inside each other. Put your morning clothes inside along the zipper. Sleep in your grundies only your body aclimates.
Been winter camping in 20 and 25- below.

I would go wit a cot for sleeping. The pack down small enough, are comfortable enough and allow the heat from the stove to get under you. Did you get one of those stove fans?

I dont like getting up every couple hours to feed the fire. I make a pot of coffee before i go to bed. When I get up in the morning to pee i toss some kindling in the stove. come back inside and put in some firewood. Set the coffee pot on it and crawl back into my nice warm bed. Wait about a half hour and get up to start breakfast. If you got somebody with you try and wait them out on the run outside to pee thing.
