Well after this I don't wanna heat anyone say they can't figure out self check out . At the Piggly wiggly getting some gumbo ingredients and the line for regular check out is pretty long. No big deal Theirs a self check out well it's moving buy pretty quick. The lady I from of me though is one if those who is just super against self check out. She was yammering the whole time about how she shouldn't have to scan her own stuff that their job, how kids are so lazy that's why they made these how they just need more regular checkouts yadda yadda yadda. I got ear buds in but I can still here her ranting and raving Well she gets to the scanner and you could see it. She's scoffs fumbles around with her cans of soup , saying how she can't figure it out and how somone should scan it for her she's makin a real show of it. Well she's holding up the line the associate keeps trying to help explain but it's obvious she just wants it to be done for her. She finally just asks for it to be stopped and starts trying to give lecture on the evils of self check out. Again real bit of work. Well now it's open I go to move up and there's a tap on my shoulder. Turn around is one of the Amish types we have around here. Forgot their technical term . Their the ones who can drive and have limited tech but it was obviously one of them. He's looking pretty irritated says " Son may I skip line ? I wanna make a point " I say sure I don't have much neither does he. We walks up looks at the lady and says " Please stop and watch it's really not that hard" scans his few items with her glaring pays and says " See ? So easy even I can do it, you just want to be difficult and make these workers have a harder day. " He takes his bags and walks out leaving this lady looking like she just got slapped with an ugly stick She ended up going to the back of the regular check out line all sulled up I swear y'all never a dull day

Ya, I got a buddy that screams about the scanners whenever we go to a store with them. He goes and waits in line forever and I walk over, scan mine real quick and I'm out in the parking lot waiting on him every time. Amish driving????!?!? In my neck of the woods they drive horse and buggy/buckboard. Heck they just took the buckle off their hat. Heard of the ones in PA rollerblading and wearing colored clothes but not the ones around here

Got a story of my own about those things, Wolfy! I'm deaf as a post, see? So, on this extremely rare occasion I encounter one, I genuinely haven't a clue. I try. I try everything I can think of. It's just not happening. And, all the while I'm dimly aware of this mild buzzing. Finally. I give it best and wander off with my basket, to find a proper cashier to check my stuff out for me, like usual. And there's this young lady in a queue nearby. I have Never forgotten the way she was looking at me. A kind of mixture of pity and wonderment that Anybody could be so thick! I dimly realised, at that moment, that the 'buzzing' I was hearing would have been an automated 'voice' telling me what to do. I don't look deaf, so this young lady obviously thought I was just ignoring the instructions and was somehow hades bent on trying to do it my own way Really must have thought I was some stubborn old fool.

Self checkout is not difficult but it is not there to help the folks who work in the store. And it will cost folks their jobs because there will be fewer regular checkouts as the self checkouts become more accepted. And there will be no reduction in the price of goods due to the lower labor cost either.
I do not create a scene like the woman did though. I just refuse to use the self checkout.

I won't use self checkout, I would if say 5% or 10% discount was given. I will however wait in a line about 5 to 8 minutes, after that I leave my cart in line, or if carrying my goods place them neatly on the floor where I stood in line and walk out. That employee they saved with a self checkout can restock the goods I left.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

I have left stuff and walked out too. Self checkout all backed up and only one register open. I rarely shop at walmart now. Only if what I need isnt available someplace else close. I park back at the auto shop. Enter there. Then I get my item or three and check out at the auto desk.
