I always trap this one lake since I started trapping 2 seasons ago but this year I think i won’t. They are not a nuisance to the land owner and with the drought last year and this year with the fact I caught a fair amount out of it last year, I think I should let the population grow and go back in a year or two. Would you guys think this is a good call? Or should I go and trap it again this year?

I would scout it and see what the sign looks like. If there's as much sign as ever, go ahead and trap it but if it looks like there's not as much sign as normal, no harm in letting it sit a year as long as the land owner doesn't mind. I'm assuming you're talking muskrats.

what animal are you trapping. Most furbearers it is good to manage the population and remove some every year.Make room for the new, plus others will move in.If its muskrats your talking about I would think you need to take some, even beaver.

This year, most Ohio fur is not really worth the time spent catching and prepping it. You can make more money doing nearly any other paying job in the same amount of time. This season, I would only trap for enjoyment or animal damage control in Ohio. I'm going to trap on my farm only this year. I'll donate all my catches to Wilmington College's Biology Department again. I don't enjoy put up, the way I enjoy trapping. There's plenty of other, more useful work to do on my farm, compared to skinning, fleshing and stretching for pennies.

What are you trapping? Beavers? Muskrats? From the landowner point of view, they are 100% a nuisance if they are present in a lake. Both tunnel into the levee, and sooner or later water will be leaking thru, then the levee blows out. If your landowner isn't bothered by their presence, he hasn't shelled out a few thousand to have a lake levee rebuilt. 1st gnawed stick I see, I'm trapping and shooting.

For by grace are you saved by faith, and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.
