I had hip replacement a month ago, getting along good. Went back to my lawn business, mowing only 20 lawns a week for now. The other day my incision started to drain. Now I have infection in it. Dr gave me some powerful antibiotics to try to knock it down. Strong stuff, tears my stomach up and nothing usually bothers me. After to go in for checkup Wednesday, if it's not cleared up Dr said he might have to open it up. It could be worse,he might have to remove implant, get rid of infection, then put in new. Doesn't sound good.

They talked about the risk of infection when I had both of mine replaced. Worst case…shafts in the femur need pulled, and one is confined to bed until the infection is totally cleared. ( there is no joint at this point ). Then when it’s cleared up, they put you back together.

Doctors told me this, but they said in the vast majority of cases where infection develops, it can be knocked down with antibiotics…the high octane stuff needs to be delivered through IVs. The infection treatments have a pretty good success rate. Best of luck to you, let us know how you make out.
