Why do Predator like Skunk essence so much?

I've never found it that attractive to them by itself. Use it more as slight side odor to carry the other odors longer distances when I use it. Now maybe if you were trapping in an area were hunger was a bigger motivator then it might signal a possibility of food but still not as attractive as a straight up food lure. I'd rather do without skunk essence than some other ingredients I've tested if I had to give something up. My opinion skunk gets over rated because some think louder is better. And some will play upon this in the lure business to sell more lure. And there is the possibility that your in an area with very few or no skunks it might have a curiosity attraction but here we have lots of skunks so it doesn't have that affect.Used right it will add distance and longevity to a formulation. Just my two cents.

around here everything eats skunks , road kill go right away , take a skunk and bury it and fox coyote will dig it up every time, nothing eat possum

Here in North central Wisc., skunks caught during early trapping season arent touched till later in end of Nov and into Dec., yotes dig thru snow and eat the fat skunks then.

Skunks are so fatty, that's what I think the critters want. Skunk essence used right give a "lift" to lures
