I knew about the test and arrive can app but I haven't heard anything about travelling between provinces. Do they have checkpoints set up? You now have me worried haha.

Yes they do. Check each providence in which you are going. Easy to fill out but it was unknown to us. The 1 we only had to show our negative test. App to fill out when you get off the ferry. Squash is right on with getting back in the US. Good luck on your hunt. The rut will be be in on your hunt.

You did great! My hunting buddy and I went in 2019 and got bulls about the size you shot. We had approx 350 lbs of meat each. We had a deposit for 2020 but covid ended that. Hope for 2022.

I've only had moose two times in my life and it was the best meat ever. I only had a calf tag and my brother a bull. His was tough and mine was tender. The next hunt we only wanted calf tags and we both got one both from the same cow.

Guides told us the 3rd and 4th week of the season is the best time to call them in. But the meat will be tough on a bull.

Reason they shoot any bull NFLD is no wolves there to trim the moose. Hunters have to shoot about 25,000 a year to keep things in check. Has been some pretty severe range degradation in some places, e.g. the national parks, there to the point where special hunts were allowed to restore habitat. Just about the whole place is great moose habitat so a lot have to be shot to keep things in order. Outfitters and non-resident hunters do a great service by trimming the moose in the back country. Locals hunt the more accessible areas. Almost everyone local is a meat hunter.

Just got a text from my son. He and his two buddies all got their moose. Only issue is they are stuck on the island until Tuesday because of weather, real rough seas. The quick story on his animal was hit at a ranged 289 yards thru a shoulder and out, second shot was 329 facing away thru the center of the neck and instantly down. He said the second shot was not really needed but I taught him a long time ago, if it's still on its feet keep shooting. He said its lungs were very well mushed up. Second shot broke the neck. He is using a 300 win mag that he just had built. Blue printed Remington 700 action, TriggerTech trigger, 24" Proof Research carbon fiber barrel. Nosler 180 grain E-Tip, 69.9 IMR 4350, Federal 215 magnum primer, Winchester brass. I can't recommend the brass as we got 2 sealed bags of 50 virgin brass, half of which we scrapped as you couldn't close the bolt after it was full length sized to make up the fire forming loads. I think it's an issue with the size or position of the belt. Average velocity is right around 3100 fps and will shoot into an inch at 200 yards. Didn't get either bullet back, they are still going. I'll try and get pictures up when I get them.

Looking forward to the pics. I did my skull for a European mount on Friday. Boy did it stink.

He can't bring the skull with brain matter back into NYS, cwd concerns, so I think he is having the skull prepared there and shipped. I agree, boiling out a skull is a stinky job. Beetles are just as bad.

Here is a few pics from our trip. It was a great time in some beautiful country. The weather wasn't the greatest for our hunting technique but It cleared up a few times to give us our moose. My uncle also got a good bear.

Congrats Michigander! I would have been thrilled with a bull like yours.

What county are you in?

20 bulls around 250 pounds of meat. Had it butchered there. Only took them a few hours and was vacuum packed. Cost me 170 us. Fuel is high in Canada figured we spent around$1000 just in gas.. Saw a beauty of a 50 inch bull with 23 points at the main lodge. Trip of a life time even it was only 4 days in camp.

So these moose are about the size of an elk?

250-300lbs of meat sounds about right. I shot a 42” bull in ME in 2015, it dressed 740 lbs.

I almost saved his snout but decided against it. I did salvage his tounge.

I got 261 lbs of boned out meat from my moose and my uncles yielded 350 lbs.
