Picked up a Smith & Wesson 45cal 625-3 Stainless revolver. It's in excellent condition with a 4" barrel.

Idea on Value? [Linked Image]

Cotton is right on. I have the same gun only 5". Easily the most boringly accurate handgun I own. Used it on squirrels, rabbits, coon, and even a couple deer. All with my own cast bullets, either the 452460 (200 grain) or the 452423 (240 grain for the deer). I use both ACP cases with full moon clips and Auto Rim cases. Never needed a second shot on any. I kept the shots on deer to about 25/30 yards. One of my shooting buddies has one with a 3" barrel. In my opinion his is the perfect carry gun, I'm a big guy so I could hide it.

A 625 should be 45 Long Colt right?

I have nothing clever to put here.

Nope, 45 ACP using full moon clips or 45 Auto Rim cases. Full moon clips are the perfect speed loaders. Having said that I have seen the 625 Model of 1989, which is what the pictured gun is, chambered in 45 Colt. The 45 Colt version is not very common. I've only seen one or two in person.

depends on wear and exact features

between 900 and 1300

if it is a custom shop or a slicked up JM series the higher end , if it is just plane and in good shape 900-1000

the 4 inch barrel seems to bring a little more money than the 5 inch

guys wanting to carry it or to run major in the wheel gun classes want the shorter barrel

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I forgot, for a short period of time I had a 625 Mountain Gun in 45 Colt. Worst piece of do-do I ever owned. If I or several other shooting buddies could put 2 or 3 out of six on an 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet of paper at 25 yards it was a GREAT day. Jacketed or lead, heavy or target loads, didn't matter. The gun just wouldn't shoot so down the road it went. The guy I sold it to made no bones about it, he maintained I didn't know what I was doing. Was actually a jerk about it. I found out through the grape vine that he got the same results and ended up damaging the gun by trying to lap the chamber throats with a wood dowel and some wet/dry paper. He sent it back to S&W and got charged for a new cylinder and barrel. He really knew what he was doing I guess.

Yes & No, made in both chamberings.

That would be the Model 1917 Army, made by both S&W and Colt as a stop gap for slow production rates of the Model 1911 during the Philippine Insurrection.

It's probably gonna hit the the road. I like it but after my wreck it's a little much for my right hand. Probably sell it and finish my son's deer rifle.

I really appreciate the info, only bought it because the guy needed some money.

It shoots like - but doctor said it might years before I get full strength back in the arm/hand. I'll include a Pic of the wreck. [Linked Image]

Not all brands of ammo will fit well in a moon clip. Some do not fit tight.

Brett:
That's a wrench for taking the barrel lock/sleeve off a 1911.
Pressing it down over the barrel end depresses the lock, and a 1/4 turn will unlock it from the slide, allowing the barrel to be removed after removing the slide lock.
