In an attempt to eliminate fossil fuels, this legislation would impose a “fee” on all methane emissions, including in our agriculture industry. We all know that a fee is just a tax and that consumers are the ones who will pay for it. The tax is estimated to cost $6,500 per dairy cow, $2,600 per head of cattle, and $500 per swine each year. That is more than what the animals are worth, it’ll run ranchers out of business.

It's time to think hard about coming together and using our rights enumerated in the Second Amendment, to put America back on the Right Path.

Why don't we just save the fuel that trucks need to bring the milk, meat, and vegetables to big cities. City dwellers can grow all the food they need on their roof-tops...

I'm sure it will only affect the rich ranchers and dairymen -- so we are all good right? time to cut off food to the cities -- NOW. they can buy it all from mexi- cali -- china, brazil.

Will never be that high as the value of the milk is not that high and no cows are not worth anywhere near $6,500 for commercial production cows. Also the bulk of the methane comes through the mouth as the cow coughs up the cud and chews it up after it has been in the rumen for some time to ferment. So this is not about farts at all, and very unlikely to be a high tax even if there ever is a tax. On the bright side for dairy cows maybe they can sell methane reduction credits if they control more methane release. We are already seeing some revenue streams from manure that are almost as profitable as the profit from milk. The only real big hitch to that for farmers is that those profits are for the really large scale operations which if the trend continues many what we call larger farms. 500-2,000 cows will not be able to compete.

I am with Bryce on this one, just how profitable do these fools think a pound of beef and a gallon of milk are?

I think its a great thing. Just think of all the cow fart counter jobs that will open up. I am pretty sure with only six months intensive training the average liberal arts bachelors degree holder ,will be able to successfully count cow farts to apply the correct tax to each animal
