Who owns one and are they a lot different than the HMR? Walmart has a pile of WSM ammo and I get the sudden urge to have one.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I have one and love it. From what I hear the rifles are very hit and miss. I got a good one. Savage BMag blue heavy fluted barrel. Also the ammo can vary. Where 17HMR is built as a rifle round, WSM starts life as a nail gun blank. There is no “ higher quality” or match ammo. There is Winchester, Hornady, and Federal all made by the same company with the same 20 or 25 grain bullets. All that being said Mine I have had no issues. Very accurate. Hits very hard but very fur friendly. Truly Coyote unfriendly. Most chest shots drop instantly, no exit with a .17 caliber entrance. At 100 yards it will turn a tomato into a mist. It’s quite fun.

My BMag is a later version. It will easily shoot 1 Moa from a bench and rest on paper. I don’t honestly know if I have experienced the flier phenomenon that is talked about. I figure I just miss at those times. That is typically at small targets at longer range. I have tried hitting coons at 275-300 yards from my porch. They wander around the harvested cornfield across the road at dusk. Some I hit, some I don’t. It’s stretching it out there quite a ways and my porch railing isn’t the best rest. But it’s fun. I does fold up a Coyote reliably under 100 yards. Like a rock.

I have the B-mag. On a bench rest I can stay within a 1" circle at 100 yards, maybe a 3/4" circle. But after 4 or 5 shots, the pattern opens up to 2-3". I'm guessing that once the barrel warms up it's just not shooting as tight as when it's cold.
But for taking animals, I'm never going to get 5 shots with a bolt anyway. It's a good varmint gun. Faster and flatter than a .17HMR. It's a surprisingly loud gun for such a small caliber. I think it's louder than my .223.
