Chanterelles and black trumpets. Last year was so good I ended up with three gallons of dehydrated trumpets.

With the recent rain hoping they start springing up more.

Anyone else pick mushrooms?

I love those trumpets! They really add flavor to a dish.

I've been getting a little bit of everything: chicken, shrimp of the woods, lobsters, oysters..

But, no hen of the woods yet...and no chanterelles. Normally I'd be getting a bunch of chanterelles while grouse hunting, but nothing yet. I think it's too dry.

We had a week straight of rain last week. I am excited that stuff will be jumping up like crazy. The chanterelles are way down, but there are some.

I have picked trumpets right into the middle of November here.

Chicken is always few and far between here. I have one tree that produces well. I should have checked it a month ago.

Just starting here. I love those trumpets. I fry them lightly and mix in some cream and put it on pasta. I love the taste.

chants are the best wild mushroom there is!! hands down!! I usually find several gallons or more and can them up.................and then I like to go get more to fry up..........either saute in butter and onions or deep fry in fry krisp

I haven't made any forays into canning, but i should. Chants seem like the perfect thing to can, because in good years I can put up gallons and gallons of them....

What is the process to can chanterelles?

put away about 25# of hens, left at least 125# in the woods, can't use that many.

Picked these this morning. Five 5 gallon buckets full. Found all within a 1/2 acre area in the cascades at about 2500 ft elevation.

We forage mushrooms from early spring until November here, probably 3-dozen varieties. I tore a tendon in my foot this summer, too much traversing steep hills and ankle-twisting logging slash. I still collected 55 lbs of chants myself, from easy spots. Its been a banner year for sweet tooth / hedgehogs. Not a big fan of black trumpets but did grab some impressive specimens along the way, just couldnt pass them up. Been focusing on turkey tail this past week, starting to see yellowfoot and honeys. Still need more chaga.
