Last Sunday, a young girl killed her first bear. I posted a story about that one.
Was to warm out to get it weighed as we needed to get it taken care of.
After that was done, we did weight it and it was 514# Great bear for Mn.
This morning, I got a real fast glimpse of a bear cross a remote grassy dike.
It never came out so I assumed it was bedded in the ditch in tall grass.
There is a gal I know that had a tag and wanted a bear.
The whole story turned out to be a bizarre turn of events that would take an hour to write and was super fun how it all went down but she finally got it.
This one went 536#.
2, 500+ lb bear within a mile of each other.
What a fun week.

Dave, if you can save me some fat off a bear sometime, I've never rendered some and would like to try it.

B&B, you are one heck of a bear magnet! Getting a crack at ONE single 500+ bruin is a once-in-a-lifetime deal in most of the Upper Great Lakes area, but two in one week! Sheeeesh, it would be like shooting two 14 points in a week.

Nothing to it Dave, just cut some fat off, freeze it and let me know.

On a pig, it's said the best fat comes from around the kidney areas. It's call leaf fat.

Gman, that pretty cool :
I'm kinda fussy now days about who I invite but she fit the bill.
Fun,hardworking gal.
Jmorse, I've been blessed by a couple of big landowners that allow me to play in their sandbox.
Something I truly appreciate!!
I "thought " I knew a fair amount about bear but these lastfew years I realized how much of the "big picture " I've been missing over the years.

#1 bear have NO problem traveling 5 miles a day for food and back to good bedding cover.
#2, no matter how good you think you are at baiting, odds are you are NOT gonna constantly kill big, older bear on baits..
49er, DHH's wife has already got dibs. You'll have to Duke it out with her laugh. And she's a mean woman shocked smile

BB I talked to Beth yesterday and the girls are still all cranked about Sam's bear. Big decision on what to do for a mount-I say full body on wheels!!! My daughter wants to know if you can find her a 538 for next year. hehe Her biggest is a 410.

Is 49'r lookin for fat to render or does he just want some rendered bear fat?

I'm kinda old school, I'm all about doing things for myself. With that said if you have, or know where I can get, food grade rendered bear fat I may be interested.
