But I'll share a list of events from today.

Woke up at 3:30 thinking about our Day of Champions for the flag football game I coach.
Hopped on Trapperman to kill a few hours.
At 5:00 woke up The Boy and asked if he wanted a hunters breakfast of eggs toast and sausage.
Cooked breakfast and got The Boy up and fed.
He got his camo on and we headed the 3/4 mile to grandpa's house.
Got him and grandpa set up and told him to aim small miss small.
Was back home at 6:30.
Got a call from grandpa's phone at 6:50, it was The Boy saying, "I got one, come over!!!"
Got back in the truck and found him and grandpa waiting in the garage with long faces. No blood was the first thing I heard.
Told The Boy don't worry dad's a good tracker lol.
Out to the back yard and was shown where the deer was standing and yup no blood but also no tracks in the mud where it was said to be standing. Looked about and found a set of faint tracks about ten feet away and could see they looked like a deer had jumped back and twards the trail.
Moved slowly since the rain had the ground soaked. Found a leaf with a bit of light red blood on the very edge set my hat by it.
Checked my watch 7:02 need to be to the field at 8 game at 9.
Moving slowly found a scratch from a hoof in the grass then a pin dro of red blood. Set a water bottle by it.
Found another spot of blood.
And another
And one more.
Check watch 7:06
Then no blood but good tracks in the mud for 50 yard. Can see where the tracks head into the brush heading north. Look at the low weeds no blood but can find a track every few yards in the pine needles and mud. No blood.
Ask to hear the story again. This time two deer were together both went down the trail the same way. BUT... I had only seen one set of tracks in the mud past last blood.
Back to the water bottles and hat at the start.
Check watch 7:17.
Look at the grass on both sides of the trail and see where some is leaning back a bit like a deer recently went through.
Look closer... BLOOD!
Had The Boy go slow and look for blood. HERE!... MORE HERE and HERE!!! He yelled for grandpa.
Grandpa went around the other trail and shouted, "I found her!"
The Boy takes off at a run. I hustle up and there she is about 75 yards from the start of blood.
Check watch 7:25.
Take picture.
Get knife out check watch. 7:29
Hand knife to The Boy.
Tell him, "this is for you and grandpa now. Told ya dad could track lol"
Hustle back to the truck.
Change clothes, grab gear bag and back in truck.
Check watch 7:48
Get to the field.
Check watch 8:05
First kid shows up at 8:15.

I don't know who told you that you were no story-teller but they were wrong. Great story, excellent outcome, well done on all fronts!

Nothing like a challenging tracking expedition to get our blood flowing. The ups and downs can be excruciating. Congratulations on finding it.

The Boy wanted me to share this. He is pretty proud. Been watching yard deer and using a lazer pointer to show where he'd shoot. That way I can correct him if he is off. Guess it paid off as she was quartering twards him pretty good. Bolt went in forward of the right shoulder and out just behind the left.

Great story and congratulations to the young man and to you for teaching him well.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!
