Just curious what everyone does for a yearly or more tradition with family or friends that’s outdoor related? Lookin to add a few as the kids get older.

We have a deer drive every Friday after thanksgiving with a group of guys have a knife that we pass around
Called the hungry hunter. First kill gets there name and date engraved in it and holds it for the year .

Our son and I started an opening weekend deer hunting saga in 1992 in the national forest. We did that until 2017. Now we go up and take a 4-wheeler and go back further and hunt the last weekend. We see fewer deer, are buck hunting only and do little two person push drives and trail type pushes. From 1988-2008 we did a 4-day summer smallie, musky, walleye fishing trip that was usually in north central WI>
Have started a partner trapping with canoes after rats. This will be our 7th year. All have been fun.
When I was young growing up in west central WI our deer hunts were different but we had a ton of deer to see and harvest.
I also do a few days of grouse hunting and now I do this after the bear seasons are done. I have hunted grouse some every year for 45 years.

The boys and I take a trip to hunt sharp tails every year. It’s became something all of us look forward to. Many great memories

The hunting traditions in my family died with my Grandpa frown I tried to revive some of them but the rest of the gang wasn't interested.

Our hunting tradition is a Labor Day dove shoot for everyone and their families. We usually all pitch in and plant 15 or 20 acres of corn or sunflowers. It's very laid back and fun for all ages

After we shoot our doves we have a big fish fry or shrimp boil. Everyone enjoys it and we have fun even if the birds don't fly.

It has always been the sign of good things to come for me. After this day I know hunting seasons are near and trapping isn't far behind. Also my favorite time of year to fish...opening day of Rifle deer season!

Gotta live up to the nickname...

I never cared to hunt with a crowd no matter who it was. I hunted with my Dad as a kid, just the two of us 99% of the time. We still hunted some in my adult life, but not as much as we did when I was a kid. I hunt alone most of the time as an adult. It seems like if I take some one they want to drag three other people along or are hunting with the three the next weekend where I took them. So I go alone. I have gone on a birthday hunt for 55 years.

My father never hunted, trapped or fished.

Don't have any real traditions, as I hunt and trap by myself most of the time, or with friends occasionally.

I am taking my dad out for walleye tonight though, so thats cool.

until 2019 when my great aunt who hosts deer camp had health problems then my great uncle died the week before deer season

we always go to my aunts house on Friday before opening day
we go out for fish fry on Friday
get up and hunt Saturday often a big breakfast
big meal Saturday night
hunt Sunday often a full thanksgiving dinner , turkey , and trimmings Sunday night

we used to leave and drive back Sunday night so my dad could be back at work Monday once I was out of school I would take Monday off also and drive back Monday

my Great Great grandfather had the house built in 1888.

before it was my great aunt's house it was her mothers my great grandmother , she met her second husband at deer camp , a friend of the family brought Roy with hunting , the got on so good the wedding was in January

they used to pack 20+ people in that house now 8-10 is doing good

2019 we had a funeral
2020 my aunt was having health issues and was living with her daughter

we are back on for 2021 aunt says she is feeling good

hallelujah it has been a long 2 years

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

We have the beer cache. We hunt alot of walk-in only public land. When one of us kills a deer it is tradition that we all help drag it out after the hunt. It is also tradition that the hunter who killed brings 1 or 2 beers for every man that came to help. We make a beer cache along the trail for motivation and refreshment on the long drag out.

When my Dad and Brothers were still active and alive, much like others on here, we would go out hunting rabbits and pheasant on Thanksgiving morning. The smell of gunpowder still reminds me of those days. We'd come back to our folks' place after several hours of hunting, and step in the door to be greeted by the smell of roasting turkey and pumpkin pie.

Everybody's gone now so my son and I always deer hunt on Thanksgiving morning, just to keep the old tradition alive. Still come home to the smells of the Thanksgiving dinner, and life is still very good. In a few years his boys will be coming out with us.

None anymore. When I was young it was always a pheasant hunt on the pheasant opener, and then a deer hunt on Thanksgiving morning. We would usually hunt stands until about 9 or 10am, then do some drives before going home for dinner. Most Saturdays during shotgun deer season would usually be a repeat of Thanksgiving morning as well, though not usually quite as many hunters. OH and on the deer opener we would drive down to the southern tier of the state, just for the one day then drive home again that night.

Dove season I like to take out new hunters for obvious reasons- lots of shots and a semi controlled environment where each shooter knows his fields of fire and where everyone else it. Added bonus if someone does muff it, getting peppered with bird shot at 60 yards doesn't really hurt all that bad so it is moderately safe to take along a newb or a city boy.

My tradition is this, let some guy brag about what a great wing shooter he is or what his last few scores on a trap or skeet range and then bet him a chunk of change that he cant shoot (and retrieve) his limit that day with a single box of shells. I have only paid up one time so far and I am 51 LOL
