who has it? Do you like it? Looks like a one time buy in and then I guess they try to sell you more after the get you started? I have comcast cable now but its expensive. I dont watch much tv. Just me, wife and 9 year old son. Winter will be here so we will watch a little while its dark out. Just need internet and the $30 box and start watching tv? No monthly payments?

You already have internet. If you have Amazon Prime ($109) per year, and buy Amazon Fire Stick one time ($35) and roll on! :-)

Yes and no.

You can get some free TV via PlutoTV that's available on ROKU. Its actually pretty good depending on what you like. It actually carries a limited version of BlazeTV, which is weird as Pluto is owned by Viacom/CBS, as well as some other conservative leaning news channels. Some more free stuff can be found as well, this site has a list: https://www.cloudwards.net/roku-free-channels/

There's also subscription channels like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, BlazeTV, and more if you want em that youll have to pay for.

I switched to it. Had Dish for years. When they wanted me to pay more for Blues hockey and Cardinals i said buy. Not bad for price. Been watching a lot of college sports. Nice not to deal with all the BS.

Roku is a one time purchase,,, tons of free movie channels tubitv, Pluto, but I primarily watch YouTube stuff,, tons of free movies and documentaries on there. Then you have endless trapping, fishing and hunting content.

I do the Roku, it’s pretty nice if you like Bonanza, Leave it to Beaver, Dennis the Menace - - - I do have to “pair” the remote more often than should be but other than that, I would give it a “thumbs-up”

Roku has some of it's own free channels, shows and movies, quite a few actually. Then as others said there are other free streaming services with different shows and movies.

BUT if you're wanting particular networks (AMC, History) or local channels you'll have to shop around a bit and find a paid streaming service that offers them. Paid services include SlingTv, YoutubeTV (different than just youtube), HuluLive, etc. and range from $25 a month to $75+ depending on what all channels you "need" to have, lol.

Roku works great. We have used ours daily for years now. We have an old, non smart TV.

Channels like AMC frequently give short, but an unlimited number of free previews. When the free preview ends, hit back to go to the Roku home screen and go back in again and watch the rest of the show. It's how I watch the Walking Dead on AMC.

Lots of people share codes for channels like Disney, HBO Max and Hulu too.

I am with the Yes some free and No, they oversell the free and it comes with lots of commercials

roku has some "free" stuff , but like over the air TV it isn't free you are the product
nothing your not paying for doesn't come with significant commercials

that said I do have one and do like to watch netflix on it

it is a small computer built into a monitor/tv so expect it will need a full power off about once a month when it gets slow

code sharing is handy and a way to get more without spending a ton my nieces have our Disney plus and we have their amazon

I have both the roku and a firestick. I watch the fire stick more because it has youtubetv. Roku doesn't.

You can get a lot of free apps. pluto, imdb to name 2.

I pay $65/month for youtubetv, $5/month for Discovery+, and $15/month for netflix. I share my nieces Disney+ account. That is under half of what I was paying for DISH and all those apps.

I dumped overpriced Dish when I finally got decent speed service that would support streaming. I went with Roku to my non smart tv. Depending on what you like to watch, you will likely have to pick and choose from some of the pay streaming services. I have You Tube TV, ESPN+ and Discovery that are all paid subscriptions and still spend less than half of what Dish charged. I like many of the programs on Discovery and while I can not watch them live, I have access to the entire library of shows and for a couple dollars a month they are commercial free. I can watch live TV on You Tube TV and can record unlimited shows on their cloud DVR and watch them at my convivence. I rarely ever truly watch live tv anymore.

I would of switched to Hulu or one of them places to lower my monthly bill we tried several trial runs years ago but the wife did not like to search the programming guide, the struggle is real. LOL

When did they get it??

Because 3 months ago it wasn't offered through Roku.

I have watched youtubetv on roku every day for 3+ years now. Not sure what's going on with yours? Just do a search for RokuTv and download the app for it... it's not one of the preloaded apps, you need to install it.
