On aug. 3 I was cutting firewood ,made a mistake and a large log rolled over the top of me. It mangled my ankle and broke my leg where it attaches to ankle.I have had 2 sug.on it.My question is,its been almost 3 months and its still swelled up and hurts all the time, its nerve damage.Has anyone ever had anything happen to them like that? Im almost 70,are the good times really over for good?

3 months since your last surgery or 3 months since the accident ?

What does your doc have to say about it ?

Are you putting weight on it ? Does the swelling go down at night ?

Wow.... I feel for you Randy. I am not a Dr. and can't give any medical info, but can and will say a few prayers for you. I do know that healing is much slower than when we were in our 30s and 40s.

Good luck to you.

Its been 4 wks. when I got the second surgery they attached tendons to leg.Im trying to walk on it but most of ths time I use a walker. It feels like a bad sunburn and my leg and foot is swelled up, the pain never stops.I am not taking any strong pain meds. The bad shooting pain has slowed down some so im thankful for that. The dr. has no idea when the swelling will go down.

A neighbor broke his last year by stepping in a hole so he didn’t need surgery, but it was an option and he didn’t do it, he just let it heal and he still has trouble, but he also had other health issues, so that could be a contributing factor that he could do more physical therapy, he is around 68.

it is true it takes a lot longer to heal the older you get. That said you should ask your doctor for a referral to a good bone specialist. My wife had a broken elbow that would not heal, and when it started the break was becoming a joint and the joint was fused. She seen a top notch specialist in Ottawa and had her elbow completely repaired with surgery and cadaver bone as well as some plates.
Get a referral to a top notch specialist.

You certainly had a bad injury and I hope you improve quickly. Age is not our friend when it comes to healing joints and bones.

Randy,
Broke my left ankle 2 1/2 years ago. Did not have surgery but wore the Darth Vader boot for six months. Had some physical therapy that helped.
Recovery time is hard to say for by the time the boot came off I had completely gone bone on bone with the right knee. Had the knee replaced
and after a couple of years I am able to go at it again.
Hang in there and keep the faith!

Ibuprofin is your friend. Not so much for pain, mainly for the swelling. Swelling goes away, so does most of the pain in my experience.

Well PT is never any fun but it is something you really need to do to heal correctly. I'm no doc but I did spend 13 months in the hospital with broken bones. PT was miserable but it sure helped in the long run.

Hope you get some relief soon !
