Let's see what you bought at auction this weekend.

Here's what I bought in 2 lots for $93.00.

12.5" wide broad axe and small hewing hatchet.
[Linked Image]

2 haystack cutting knives. The serrated knife was often used to cut blocks of ice on ponds for refrigeration.
[Linked Image]

A ratchet, heavy tongs, cant hook head, bale hook, jack and corn knife.
[Linked Image]

A wicked, one hand scythe.
[Linked Image]

A grabber.

A 2 handed scythe.

Hay tongs.

You done good. That scythe is a useful tool if you know how to use it.
We used to cut the old worn scyth blades in half and use them on the snath for cutting lighter whippy brush.

What you’re calling an ice cutter I used as a sod cutter working at a gold mine in Nome Alaska. As the ground thawed and sunk we cut sod, or tundra, off.

Serrated hay bale saw would probably be hard to cut ice with but alot of people made do with what they had. Must have been honed wicked sharp with teeth at serrations beveled just right. Nice buys

The metal sharpens so well, it makes sense to repurpose it.

I'll clean them up some and mostly use them as decoration. I like old tools, especially ones that could be used as weapons like cleavers, scythes and axes.

The serrated haybale knife would work well for cutting soft ground like that. It's heavy duty and designed to let you use your weight.

I've heard of people using a hay knife to cut into a muskrat hut.

I bought one of those hay knives at a local garage sale and thought it was for ice cutting and had been imported here (no ice to cut here)

Looks like a productive day for you

I really like the look of your Winchester Model 94. If we could use them in Ohio for deer hunting, I would likely get one.
