I just finished getting my 9 year olds 7th deer first this year in the cooler on ice. It's been a slow year so far but both boys have got one now.

My 11 year old shot a button buck on state forest during Indiana youth season. It was a 18 yard shot with 357. mag handi rifle. It made it less than 20 yard. Was his first deer he shot l by himself I think his 10th or 11th deer so far

We are down in KY for their youth season this weekend. It's our guys trip rented a cabin. It's been sole because of heat and crowded. Pulled into the spot we picked out after scout mid day and asked a guy in the parking area if he knew where the others were hunting. I didn't want to walk in on a kids hunt. There were 8 of them and 3 were 1100-259 yards of where we were going to go. So we drove to a different side of the wma.
It was getting late at this point and the area was not heavy with sign but my 11 year old went to his spot he picked and my 9 year old picked his spot.. we jumped one going in I figured that was it for the night but 40 min later my son said deer hold still dad. Sure enough 10 yards away there it was. It walked a little eating acorns stopped behind a tree twice. It was 16 yards away walking in a clear spot and I bleated to stop her. It worked and he fired that suppressed 243. She kicked ran and crashed 40 yards away just out of sight. He m.ade a perfect shot her heart was in two disconnected piece's. He was so excited you would have thought it was his first deer not his 7th. I think it being so close really got him excited.

Going out again in the morning if I can get the boys up it's late and daylight will be coming soon. Another blessed year. Good night all.

Excellent.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

Re reading this I just can't help smile thinking about the light in his eyes and smile on his face and how long it lasted. It was so much I had him call mom to tell her his news and story. Heck I even called my cousin and best friend he also looks up to so he could tell him. I have never had them call anyone before.

They normally make sure to tell me thanks for taking them hunting. Odd they would even think about something like that at their ages and that they they get to hunt all the time. I always tell the I enjoy it and it's my job being a dad but also put in once in a while to remember this and take time out to take me hunting when I'm older and won't be able to go out without some help.

There were so many squirrels I think my 11 year old is going to take a suppressed .22 and deer gun this morning. Ii warned him it can distract him and cost him a deer but he still wants to. Some lessons just must be learned by experience I guess.

Thanks guys. We didn't see any deer this morning butt the 11 year old did get a squirrel with the suppressed 22. My 9 year old missed the squirrel he shot at with the 243 on the one he shot at.

We packed up and came back to Indiana instead of hunting KY this evening. We ate lunch and stoped at the state forest we have been hunting and hunted this evening. But not before all 3 of us had to stop at the camp ground bathrooms for emergency evacuations. Lucky it was a 3 hole bathroom. Won't eat there again. It had to be something we ate to hit us all at the same time about 35 min after we ate.

Hunting in Indiana had better sign was on our way home so when we were done we were 1hr from home instead of 3 hrs like if we stayed in KY.

We x bow hunted for Deer and the youngest squirrel with the quite .22 again because I only have one x bow . My 11 year old learned some lessons. 1 don't pick a tree in the valley when hunting hills. You're at eye level when they approach making it easy to be seen. I told him but let him pick his tree. 2 if deer hunting deer hunt for worry about the squirrels.

We got busted by a deer 30 yards away at eye level when I moved to ask what he was saying. You guessed it he was talking about the 75 million squirrels. AGAIN!!! I had all ready told him we can talk about that stuff on the way home. I well some lessons you just have to learn from experience.

My youngest had a doe walk by him at 10 yards to bad I don't have 2x bows or they are not strong enough to pull deer legal poundage with their compounds yet. But they're getting there. He did shoot a gray squirrel at 60 yards so a good shot even if it tuned both front shoulders.

We got home and mostly in packed about an hour and half after dark. Much bet than driving from where we were in KY.

In all we had a really nice trip. I see my 11 year old getting one with the x bow this season but not tomorrow. To much to get caught up on.
