A local guy bought this 1985 trailer house 6 months ago for 80k and just sold it for150k cash. A city dweller from Arizona I heard. Crazy times we are in.

The city money is coming out and buying up the houses, property taxes go up for everyone in town. Maybe I can get $100,000 for my 30 x 30 shouse!

A house down the road from me sold for 330,000 with 12 acres and a really nice pole shed. A farmer bought it cut the 10 acres that he leased from the previous owner off the property and resold the house, pole shed and 2 acres for 330,000.

In SE Nebraska a deputy wanted to become Sheriff but had to live in the same county to do so. He paid $7000/acre for a 40 acre plot, moved in a mobile command center for a dwelling until he got elected as Sheriff, then continued to live out of county as Sheriff. Still does. Street talk says he may end up losing the 40 acres. Sheriff really doesn't pay that well.

Houses are stupid high in some areas.
Don't folks recall 2005-2007 era? People buying houses they couldn't afford and when hit the fan they were upside down?
Short term memory and no common sense.
Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Yep, one of the other factors that went into the mess you describe was gas prices. People living paycheck to paycheck and all the sudden gas is costing them a couple hundred more each month than they had figured. I’ll go with no common sense.

Adjusted for inflation the U.S spent more on covid than it did fighting WWI and WWII combined. Inflation is making it extremely difficult for young families to have a home, millions of immigrants come over the border every year competing for cheap starter homes. And we wonder why many young men can't get the motivation to do anything but play video games, imaginary worlds are the only place they can compete and succeed.

Many young people have such a different mindset. They say well,we will never pay it off. We had the mindsets to pay it off and myself 10 yrs early. Thats the difference of us older folks. Its a good time to sell for retirement but then, what do we leave our kids? At my age renting and not having the maintainance to do would be great but ive promised it to my son. He likes it here.

That sounds like an excuse to me. I just did a quick search of real estate in my county and see plenty of homes available for under 100k, some of them as low as 40k. No shortage of young people driving a 50k pick up truck, but can't afford a 50k home? Maybe they just don't have their priorities right.

It's both, mindset and the times.

There are two ways to buy a house/home.
One is as an investment vehicle and the other is to live in long term.

Where you buy is important if you are buying as an investment.

I'd like to find something like that in good shape over here for 80K. I'd buy it. That's a heck of a garage set up.

bought my 1909 1 1/2 story house and a double lot for 114K in 2004 in 2010 every house around me was foreclosed on got all but 2 neighbors new
houses around me at that time were selling for 50-79K in 2011 2012

now one of those houses that had a 3 car garage sold for 120 it had been bought in 2012 for 79K

makes me think my place might be worth more than I paid for it

makes little difference I can't afford anything any where else and this one is working fine for now.
I also have very good neighbors.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
