Hey all,
Looking to take my wife on a fishing vacation to either North or South Carolina, maybe both. This would be second week of March next year. Any suggestions on near shore and off shore opportunities? Boat suggestions? We have gone for Yellowfin Tuna and Redfish out of Louisiana a couple of times and loved it, but time to try something different. We will also have a few days for sight seeing, what are your suggestions? Driving from Wisconsin.
Thanks in advance for all replies!
Doug

Either way you can't go wrong. If you want more inshore stuff I would recommend South Carolina, specifically the Charleston area. If you are looking for gulf stream type fishing the outer banks of NC are the way to go. I have spent a lot of time fishing out of Morehead City and its a short run to the gulf from there. If you want to catch king mackerel, dolphin, cobia, tuna, etc Morehead or the Outer Banks are the place to be. There are also lots of opportunities for flounder but the season is short and you will not be able to keep them. If you are after reds SC is the place to go out of the two Carolinas.
As far as sight seeing goes the Outer Banks aren't going to be comparable to Charleston. Charleston has all the things you would ever want to see, but it can be crowded. The Outer Banks aren't a "touristy" type of deal so you aren't going to be overrun with people. There are still things to see, and a lot of people isn't one of them. That's why I like the Outer Banks!
Gotta live up to the nickname...

Thanks. I want to do both inshore and offshore, but I am not stuck on a specific species of fish. Variety is good! Just want to experience different things while we still can. We may have time for inshore in South Carolina and offshore in North Carolina.

we liked Edisto Island SC about 75 minutes out of Charleston so you can go take in the sights there , lots of beach access points at the end of every street you could walk to the beach
flowers sea food great place to pick up stuff there is a state park boat ramp on the Edisto river and in March should be fairly quite , we went in early November everyone was bundled up it was 65 and sunny we were swimming water was still 80 and I was standing in the surf fishing locals thought we were nuts , we came from 35 and rain.
crab traps would be nice
I had little kids at the time , it has been a few years so we canoes the river and out into the ocean not real far about a mile
I am not much help on fishing charters although there definitely were some I didn't try any
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Too far North for that time of year? We fished Louisiana a couple times in March and we did well both times.

Thank you Owen, I will look him up. Hopefully he has a website, I don't do Facebook.
