A lot of tips are posted on here about trap preparation & treatment. What about protecting chain from rusting through? I wonder if anyone ever has that problem. I obtained a few Duke traps with some chain that wasn't well cared for. I'm thinking of simply speed dipping it, or maybe cleaning it up with vinegar...or if it's too questionable, replacing the chain. Those that spray paint traps probably keep the chain painted too I imagine. They probably need protective coatings just like traps do, to a certain degree. 'Course most people would treat the chain the same time they prep their traps. I imagine cheap chain can still weaken over time to a potentially concerning level of degredation though

If in doubt replace the chain. Easy enough to do and then you're good to go.

Probably so. I've never heard of 1 rusting through on a trapline, but I'd hate to see it happen.
