Painting will work fine! No need to wax water traps. As dumb as he is, he got this one right. I'll disagree on that 100%. I'll not set a rat or mink trap that's not waxed. Most have no idea how important wax is on the small water animals...and really no sense in trying to convince anyone but the initial poster asked....soooo. As far as paint, most painted traps stick out like a sore thumb. What does blend in really well is a trap with a light rust color to it.

Seems true. Unless the rust ends up getting bad enough to wear it hinders the integrity of key components of the trap I suppose

I would spray paint or even dipping them in some type of trap dip would be fine for the water. I too am preparing some water traps (conibears). The only difference is I used 'em last year but didn't do any prep to 'em prior to using them. That got rid of the oil & they turned rusty brown. I'm debating about painting or dipping them, but they have that sort of powdery rust residue on 'em (if I pick 1 up, my hand has sort of a powdery rust look). I assume I should remove that powdery feel before coating the traps, so the coating sticks, but how best should a person go about removing that substance? Thanks Power washer. If you don't have one the car wash works fine
