Whacked a skunk in a 120 upwind of the house last night, Smells like fall. One of the boys left a dog out Friday night. She must have found a family group and got nailed upwind of the house. I slept though it. Next morning I got in trouble for the dog being out, sleeping though it, and the skunk spraying. A guy can’t win!!

.... called a few tree trimming companies and told them that can dump on my farm. Hopefully they'll bring a lot of logs.... It sounds like you have a plan. I hope it works out for the season. I was in the same position the first year I set up my boiler. I spent the entire winter scrambling for wood of any description. I had grossly under-estimated my requirement. By the end of the season I was burning pallets, and wood that was still growing days earlier. Not good. But, be careful what you wish for. The wood I've received from tree services, Is now a pile that approaches 1000 cords. As if I didn't have enough irons in the fire, already; I now have a firewood business.

The smell of skunk in the fall also brings me back to my youth. When I was around 10 or 11 i could not wait to get some traps set,so I would go out and look for groundhog holes to set 1.5 LS.I trapped the groundhogs to practice tanning on. Often I would get a skunk and after clubbing it and getting fully annointed I would haul it home to skin only to be banished.

My boys are 11 and 9. They could work on splitting and stacking by the road and sell it by the load to those that would come get it. I will still have to to the cutting yet for them. Or get some smaller chaps and a smaller saw. Would be a good way for me hem to make a little spending money. This is my 4th year with this heat system and I estimated it would be about 4 years before I ran out. I was off about half a year. I do need a tractor with loader with this plan.

Remember to budget for a lot of sawchain. Those backyard logs are a warehouse of fasteners.

I don't know if the smell of skunk changes in the fall, or if they just smell different in cooler weather, but it sure seems better in October than it did in May/June.

The smell of skunk in the fall also brings me back to my youth. I like the smell of skunk, Robert, I used it as a cover scent deer hunting for years. I do nose hits on it.

I dont mind it either,or mink for that matter. Not much for weasels-strong stinky little buggers. I like to slash the mink and weasel glands when doing skinning demos at the council workshops. Gives the audience the full effect.
