Over other methods? Looking at what I'm trying to do and some of the crap I deal with yearly I've been building more cages . Just look like it will be less of a pain compared to other stuff with all the dog hunters ,rain and landowners.

When coon are up I run about 55 cages here the fox, skunks and coons stick close to the farm places rather then deal with the coyotes. Yes less of a pain but I only set on private places losing cages is costly.

Cages always have places on my line.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Always use 'em during trapping season to remove Coon from barns. Nice, dry, fluffy Coon...lol

I use cage inside barns for Coon. Using Marshmallows for bait, I avoid cats.

Cages are tactical tools. When the situation calls for them, you use them.

It doesn't pay to get attached to any particular method or trap, especially if you're doing control work.

I have a few and find they are good for teaching my sons about different techniques. They are also fun for my kids to check without me. And, I use them around my barns when chickens get killed.

I like them too for bobcat cubbies because I can more easily release the females and young ones.

Yeah, I was attached to footholds until Washington banned them.

A real learning curve!

Give an illegal alien a fish and he eats for a day. Deport him and you never have to feed him ever again!

I have about half a dozen left now that I use mostly for ADC work. Back in the 90s I ran as many as 16-20 cages during our 9-day gun season in barns, sheds etc. Got some nice coons. Over time I have sold many to farmers to use and they discard those coons unless it is November-December then several will call me. Many have discontinued using traps as they dislike dealing with cats and skunks.

Late winter I really like them for coons. You can get a VERY high catch rate in them set on target in the coon rut.

I run some just to give me practice just in case Nevadafornia does a leghold ban. Caught my first caged cat last year. I’ve caught a lot of fox and even a semi retarded coyote, but that was my first cat.

If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

In the A D C business, you use a lot of cage traps and learn to use them well.
At least when you are trapping in 'town' or suburbs where people and pets run amuck !

I still use them to harvest raccoon in rural areas, but with the low market, I try not to catch raccoon on purpose, unless it's for a paying customer.

I have trapped foxes and coyote in cage traps, but it isn't as easy as catching a raccoon, although pups seem to be easily caught near a den site.

I do limited ADC work, mostly for about 4-5 individuals and a golf course periodically. I show them my DPs and the cages and almost always they prefer the cages. There is just something that most people don't like about the idea of the animal being held by an appendage, even though they know I will dispatch them when I take them away from the catch site.

My livelihood depends on cages and has for the past 40 years. With that being said there are times to use them and times not to. Like LT stated I use cages out on the fur line but I will pick the method that fits the spot, not pick the method because I want to. for me DPs and cable are also used where it fits better.
