There is one on GunBroker right now with 20 bids up to $1130. Minimum bid of $1155 with just 46 hrs left.
My guess it will go $1500 or more.

Still have one in 308 I got for Christmas in 1973. It' killed some elk and deer since then, but has been hiding in the safe for a while now. I probably should get it out and thump something just for old times sake. My friend had a Savage 99 and we used to argue all the time about which was better. Both make good saddle guns.

Wasn’t some of the checkering etched by hand on these and some pressed depending on age? Would that effect value or doesn’t it matter?

Wasn’t some of the checkering etched by hand on these and some pressed depending on age? Would that effect value or doesn’t it matter? The pre-64 had checkering and post 64 had pressed basket weave. This was for the full length rifle version. As far as I know, the carbine versions all had smooth stocks void of checkering.
