Speaking from inexperience, I'd say most stolen traps have critters in them.

Some guys posted about using a slide wire to get them out of sight. I'm to lazy for that.

Don’t set traps where people will find them, usually works well for me. Anytime you choose to set on public, you are running a much higher risk of theft. Get out and knock on doors, if you are a good sportsman and don’t mess things up, word travels and permissions get easier.

I actually think trapping on busy roads leads to less trap theft. Sure people see you but with a lot of traffic on the road the thieve never knows what vehicle has the owner of the trap in it. At least that's my thinking anyway.

mine have , I haven't had many stolen but 100% had a catch circle with the stolen trap it was along a river long way from a road the stakes were laying in the water crossed they Cleary pulled my stakes tossed them in the water and took the critter and trap.

I would guess they actually released the coon and chucked the trap in deeper water

a "do-gooder" type criminal trap molester

be there early before it is light to check your traps and stake them so they would get a hernia pulling them out

when do you get off school ? leaving them past 9am is not a great idea

any way you can get up earlier and at least check them even if you can't remake any sets till after school?

You will have to check before school, thats what I did in high school. School bell rang at 7:15, my alarm rang at 4:00. I could check everything in a couple hours cause I didn't have much out. Don't wait until you get out of school to check your traps, that is a guaranteed way to have them stolen

Gotta live up to the nickname...

I would say you are 100% correct.

You shouldn’t be setting traps in those public trails and roads anyway. Get your butt off the beaten path.....that’s the first thing they warn you about in trapping class...not to mention catching hound dogs

Public trails or roads were u stand a good chance of catching someone pet is a good way to make trappers look bad. If there's a chance of that happening avoid them

the area im trapping is not a trail many people take there dogs on it is deep in the moutains the only dog i could catch is a houndf but i never caught one i even coon hunt near my sets and i never caught my dog so i feel pretty confident in not catching one but that doesnt mean i couldnt catch one but im using mb 550s and duke #2 with laminations with center swivel so they wont get hurt

what is your first minute of legal trap check time ?

we must be out of the woods from 8pm to 4:30 am

if your not going to be able to check before school , set Friday afternoon , check sat , sun and trip and hide them all Sunday reset again Friday afternoon

if your land owner will check and dispatch that might be an option

in WI the and owner doesn't need a trapping license , but both your DNR numbers need to be on the trap (check your state regs)

this way he/she can dispatch and get the animal out of sight early and you can do the remake after school.
