Fresh water coyotes I call them.
Sure wish this dumb state would open them up to spearing (and liberalize the fishing take). A lot more under the ice than most people realize.
Why these things are up on a pedestal is only money related. About 5% of MN fishermen fish for muskies. Yet, the DNR keeps playing God and planting them in more lakes. They meet with the landowners. The majority of the landowners say they don't want them. But, they plant them anyway. They justify their actions by saying they had a meeting with the landowners on the lake. It is all about the money. If only 5% of fishermen pursue them then how can it be all about the money? What you said is totally bogus. All of it. I've been to some of the meetings and the ones where there was resistance from landowners were dropped. Mostly the property owners welcome the exciting fishing opportunity and the prospect of improving the panfish population.

Cool fish and thanks for sharing! Yes I always though the spotted young ones remind me of fawns. Lose the spots later and you never know of they keep their mottled markings or just turn pale greenish. Spotted little guy... A little older one with typical markings for around here.
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Bernie, it is all about the money, Muskies, Inc for one and their lobbying efforts. I have been to two meetings where it was brought up to landowners and almost all totally opposed the stocking of muskies in the lake. One was the chain of lakes in the Richmond area. Muskies and protecting the large predators in MilleLacs have practically destroyed the perch population.
