Ok, now that, that is out of the way.
I don't have any experience with wolves so my opinion and $1 will get you a cup of coffee almost nowhere.
I say, you try with how far your trap is away from the hole and maybe some guiding to keep him from stepping on it. I would assume a wolf wouldn't even step on the pan if the trap is close enough to the hole and he checks it out. But a fox would be right on it.
