Not sure what the real story is.

Starting to see it back more and more around here. Cabelas had plenty of 270 and 308 couple nights abo when I stopped in. Starting to see 22 LR, shotgun shells and various rifle stuff. Handgun ammo was back too, albeit jacked up pricing. Even had powder and some primers.

30-30, 30-06 are still darn scarce around here.

I think people are lazy about finding ammunition and if it isn't exactly what they are looking for at the exact store they want it to be at they are going to complain. I have had no issue finding ammunition for all of my firearms throughout all of this, and I shoot more than the average joe. 243, 308, 270, 12 gauge, 20 gauge, 28 gauge, 410 bore, heck I even found some 30 carbine loads for an old rifle my grandpa left to me. Not into pistols but I have picked up plenty of 9mm and 40 for friends and family.

Have I had to look harder? Yes. But its out there if you are willing to look

Gotta live up to the nickname...

I would say your experence is limited to one area. I travel a 130 mile line and check every store often. Its hit and miss mostly miss. I stay well stocked from years of prep but got lax on some things and bought some new calibers i had not stocked up for yet. Also ypung boys can run througth ammo

Bingo!
If they don't see it at the local Walmart, it must be a conspiracy. My local shop has a great selection, as do other places I've checked. Of course they still aren't caught up on all types, .44 is still empty, shotgun slugs aren't out yet, etc.... But some calibers are back to prices we haven't seen for quite a while, like 5.56 for $11/20, with shelves full of them. 22 LR are everywhere, for whatever reason buckshot is well stocked. Just like has been said for months, manufacturers are running a handful of calibers at a time trying to build inventory. Getting every load caught up isn't going to happen in a few months, especially when components are sitting in sea containers.

Ammo seems to be sitting on shelves much longer in this area. Plenty of variety available. Many gun shops in this area. I personally reload and find private sales so don’t limit myself to general retail.

Been saying that for 20 some years. They claim to be producing more than ever, but when people from across the country are on here saying they haven't seen any for years, where's this historic amount going???

Another point.
All businesses expand to meet consumer needs sooner or later, but there's been more demand than supply since Clintons gun ban. Go figure?

I was looking for 30-06 ammo 2 months ago for an upcoming moose hunt. I checked everywhere that sold ammo within a 150 mile radius and there was none to be had for the 3 weeks I was looking. Online had slim pickings at sky high prices. All ammo shelves were pretty much bare except some newly stocked odd ball calibers.

Once in Canada for my hunt I stopped at Canadian tire a few times and they had anything you could want at very good prices. The fact is Americans are stocking up on any ammo they can get and that is what is driving the storage.

No sir. In the last year I've bought ammo in NC, SC,KS, TX, ND, SD, and IA.

I buy ammo everywhere I go hunt. The further towards your area I get the easier it gets to find. Man I wish we had scheels here. Went to a scheels in ND this past week and it was LOADED with ammo.

I don't care what some of you think, Ammo is very difficult to find up in my area and I live close to Cincinnati, Mom and Pop gun stores very sadly are gone probably forever.
IF you don't look at the big box stores there is no place other than on line and my search has always found Out of Stock
We have a Sportsmens Warehouse that opened a year ago not far away, the area that they have for riffle ammo is a joke NO 243 No 308 No 30-06 No 22 ammo.
Walmart which I despise Zip on the shelves there bare

I did travel about a hr drive for me up past Cincinnati to a Bass Pro Was shocked to find a decent amount of 243 Federal 100 grain shells I've looked all year for a couple boxes
Oh I found some at times but they were over $40 a box these were $29 something.

No 30-06
So you all think that we don't look for ammo is FLAT out wrong.

I'll be looking for 300 win mag when I visit family during the Holidays. I prefer to buy in person. It has to be the most popular hunting caliber locally.

We seem to keep chasing this around in circles......never getting an answer.

Only way I can think of to find out where it is going is to take a typical day's run........and follow it from the loading dock to it's final retail destination where it is placed in hands of the users. Would be fascinating to see how many hands it passes through and where it goes.

I agree to a point people are lazy. I look multiple times a day at stores online, and stop 3-4x a week a various places on the way home from work. Not much to be had around here. When I do find something, I send out a group text with what I find. I use to post reloading components here on T-man when I found it, but it seemed I was the only one doing so. So, why bother helping others? I'll stay stocked when I find stuff. I'm not going to do the leg work, just so other people can stockpile. I still post components/ammo on other sites, because folks there do the same. Just this week I've picked up rifle, pistol, and shotshell primers, as well as Shotgun/pistol, and rifle powder. Yesterday, I even found deer slugs on sale with no limit, so I stocked up on those too.

Online outlets have variety for those that have limited local options.

Here it is hitting the shelves but is gone just as fast as it is replenished.

I will say ammo is hard to find, but not impossible. I wanted a box of 20ga birdshot and I had to go to three stores but I found it. Paid too much. A week later walmart had a lone box for half the price.

I do think a lot of the issue is hoarding, but I can't say I blame people. When you need ammo and can't find it, it tends to make you want to buy it all when you finally do find it. For example my Walmart has had 28ga for months... I imagine because hardly no one shoots it.

A couple weeks ago I checked Walmart's ammo section and they had about a dozen boxes of 12ga #6 high brass. I didn't buy any because we didn't really need any. They also had a sign up saying limit of 2 boxes of each type of shell. Oddly, when I went to check out, I was behind an older gentleman who had all 12 boxes of those shells in his cart. Cashier rang him up and ignored or was ignorant of the 2 box limit.
