All depends on your budget.
I have several different vortex products and am very happy. I know there is better glass but my budget and usage im happy.

I like them both, but prefer the 8x42 Leupold, they make them in 10x42 also.

Can’t go wrong with Zeiss either. My buddy loves them and they have a good clear glass.

Swarovski is also really good, but I have no experience with it.

Vortex is good also.

Pick something that has a good warranty.

I recently bought Meopta 12x50s for glassing during a western mule deer hunt. They are considered more robust than Swarovski's and have top quality glass at a lower price point, but still not cheap. I am very impressed with them but obviously they are not "compact." However, Meopta does make some 8x42's that you may want to look at.

Those are what I have, very good IMO. I had Nikons before these and these are FAR better. If I need to see further or really zoom I use my spotting scope and since I got the Vortex I use it a lot less.

appreciate all the replies.

I specifically DIDN'T want to mention a price point, in order to get opinions on all the different glass you guys use.

Try to find some used Zeiss "Classics" either 8 or 10 power. They don't make them anymore, but they are great, rather compact, and pretty ergonomic bino.

Check out a new company called Tract, Made right here in PA. Super high quality glass. Really stand behind their stuff. Not the cheapest but amazing quality. Best 10 x 42's I ever owned

About fifteen years ago I bought a pair of 10x25 Swarovski birding binocs on eBay. They were cheap because they were out of adjustment. Repair was free with the lifetime guarantee. Susan uses them to observe birds and wildlife. What a deal we got on these. I think I paid $65.

I have a 10x40 Minox I use deer hunting.

If you enjoy watching live football games through binocs, get the widest field of view possible.

My theory on binocs is that they must be of equal quality to your rifle scope. Reason is, if you find an animal in your binocs, you must also be able to find it in your scope, or visa versa.

Compacts are in the 30s and 20s. That is why they are called compacts.

I have a few different vortex products. Their warranty is great, problem is I don't like the fact that I've had to use it twice... and they are made in China
