After having total spine fusion and hip replacement, I need help getting up after making a set. I can get down to make the set, its getting back up. I tried a 5 gallon bucket upside down, that didn't work the best. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem. any ideas?

Not much advice but I hope your pain is better.
My aftermarket left knee isn't good. I carry a walking stick I salvaged from the burn pile. Longer than a cane (mine are about 5'-6' long), I can negotiate river and stream banks a bit easier. The steep banks are sometimes off limits. I still can't get down on both knees, though.
Good luck and do the exercises. Those wonderful exercises.

I do have one of those folding walkers. That is a good idea. I can put it in the back of my side by side. Thanks

Adjustable hiking poles then you can make them what’s ever length you need to help get you up

On your down time work on strengthening your leg etc. Did you go to rehab after you surgery? Good luck, KEEP moving.

Cat catcher i was going to suggest those too. Light, collapse down to nothing, and some have a very nice grip.
But if the bucket turned over isn't doing it not sure if the walking stick will help much more.
At least everyone has a nice yard to practice with something in before they venture out and get in a pickle out in a field somewhere.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Fasten a shovel handle with D grip INSIDE your bucket. Your hand hold needs to be higher to assist you in lifting with your hand/arm.

I've been working hard at therapy trying to get back in shape by trapping season. Just haven't been enough time yet, coupled with my back. Lost alot of flexibility, but may gain some back in time. I do have a long walking stick as well as a cane. Doesn't work for me to get up.

I was going to recommend the same. With the raised pad you're not going down as far or having to rise as far.

Keep at it. Getting old isn't for the weak. I used to be able to climb mountains....now I have to steady myself to fart.

Short shovel with a d handle on one side a bucket on the other. Put the shovel in the bucket and away you go

I hope your pain gets better. I had open heart surgery 3 months ago and have just completed physical therapy. Reality has arrived .....I'm 77. I haven't started trapping yet even though the muskrat and mink season is open. Waiting for freezeup. I have gone on hikes with a walking stick. Been scouting and wading creeks and ditches close to the road. I think making a pocket set standing in the water is easier than a canine set on land where bending over is involved, especially after back surgery. For me the issue is shortness of breath. For both of us Steep banks are out of the question. It's too bad we aren't running a pine marten line in the Yukon....snowmobile and leaning pole sets. I saw a goose hunter using a walker a few weeks back. He had the kind of walker that you can sit down on.Maybe that will help you. Best of luck and keep healing.

I guess thats why you hear that old saying more often these days-"help,I've fallen and I cant get up".Every year gets tougher and tougher.Keep up the fight.

Try a 6 or 7 gallon bucket, taller but same diameter.

GUK.....it's the sound they make when they hit the end of the cable
