Hippie, thanks for posting, the first clip is what they looked like when I went to the races at Port Royal as a kid. I think we called them jalopies, but I do not know if that is what they were officially known as.

I think back then they called those cars "Coupes" or "Modifieds". Those evolved into the 30 x 90's or the "Bugs". When they started putting wings on them they were called "Super modifieds". From there they turned into Sprint cars.

My uncle, Bill "Red" Arndt was Port Royal's 1962 Semi Late model champion. Later on he drove sprint cars. He drove the number 111 owned by Joe Lingle.
