Used a cheap ~$60 Bushnell from Walmart for many years on my 30-06, it held zero and handled the recoil from that rifle very well. Only replaced it for something a little nicer with a thinner reticle.

Wally World sells excellent low price, (not cheap) scopes that would be a great starter scope for a beginner, for under a $100. You can always upgrade later when she figures out what she likes.

The problem is the scope is right over the hammer making it hard to uncock the hammer if she happens to pull it back and not fire. For me I would be ok with it but I dont trust her to do it and possible let the hammer fly! The red dot is shorter so it does not interfere with the hammer at all. I will probably buy a youth stock for it soon. It will take some practice for her to learn to shoot left handed when she is right handed.
Thanks for the help. I would have bought leupold but none of the local shops have them in stock. I try to always buy local if I can.

My Marlin's have a side extension for the hammer release, works great, and should be available for most any rifle.

Scopes covering the hammer are what these are for IMO....

The red dot isn’t a bad way for her to learn the gun until you get the stock to fit her better, it might be when you get the stock fixed then the other scopes mentioned might become more comfortable for her.

I use Vortex but my wife has Nikon on her 7mm-08 and 22-250 and really likes them. The Nikons are very reasonably priced.

There have been some great close out prices on them since the are getting out of making firearms optics.

All my hammer guns with scopes have hamner extentions. My kids started shooting with one of them at 7 years old I was conserned at first but they had no problem with proper instruction and practicing letting it down with an empty gun. Heck my 11 year old killed one with the 357 yout handi rifle this year hunting by himself.

Explain it show her and have her practice. She will be fine. Personally i dont like red dots. Gave one away years back. Bought another one to give it another try. Replaced it with a vx3i 3x9.

A single shot hammer rifle with a beginner is not a good idea, especially
if your worried about control already. Hope youre not in nwpa if
"she lets one fly." Get a bolt gun.
Edit...im jaded because my house was shot once before, and he
was aiming. Non-control of a hammer under any circumstances
is a non-starter in my book.
