You know in going through the archives and trying to clean stuff up a bit , I gotta ask ,what happened? I mean used to have tons of these big long trapping posts on anything and everything trapping. Lot and lots of conversation .Now.....eh seems we're doing good to get a page and a half Alo of times. Got a copy of the cat sets and locations thread ( the first one) from a member and I honestly don't think I've seen a post of it's like in quite some time. Same with the old M44 usage thread , kill pole karma and some of the cage trap thread. So what happened?

More important stuff on a trapping forum like C19, Politics, Religion, and who struck John first . . .

Everybody on here now is an expert and knows it all already-No need for the old timers to share expertise with them.
Seriously though most has already been covered.Some methods however remain secret to be shared judiciously,or let out here and there a bit at a time for those able to pick up on it.

Don’t forget the ones who think they know everything and run off anyone who has a different opinion. Then people who lurk don’t even bother asking questions because they will be piled on and run off for asking a legitimate question that they would like to ask. So they don’t even bother asking anymore.

Some old timers aren’t as smart or dumb as they think they are.

I'll tell you what happened... Fur prices have been in the toilet for the better part of a decade. It would have been tough to break even when gas was $1.19 a gallon... Now it's over $3 a gallon.

Unless you do ADC work or just trap for recreational purposes, most folks aren't going to trap much... And if they ain't trapping much, they ain't gonna discuss it.

Things are going to have to improve in some key areas before you see the discussions we used to have

A lot of things.

1) Non-existent fur market leads to less active members posting and less interest from members who are here.

2) Many of us here have been here for well over a decade and have already hashed and re-hashed a lot of these topics and are bored with them.

3) A lot of skilled trappers got tired of being told they didn't know what they were talking about by snot nosed kids with one month of experience and so either left altogether, or quit posting.

4) Facebook and changing times. ALL trappers used to be here because here was the only place to be. Now people have the choice of any of a hundred trapping groups on multiple social media outlets, primarily Facebook. I think a lot of the people that left here prefer Facebook due to their ability to completely block anyone that disagrees with them, or find groups tailored to their personal beliefs. And sadly, Internet forums like this are somewhat outdated. Most people find places like FB much easier to navigate on their phones than Tman is.

Yea cant argue with that-seems like a lot of snowflakes around nowadays-get butthurt easy and take their ball and go home.
Good to test out their character like that to see if they're worth the time and effort.

I get a kick out of the guys that ask for advice then go on to tell how its wrong,lol.

Honestly you’ll probably find out why just by the answers you get to this thread. There seems to have been a culture shift. I call it the internet trapper. Years ago you had guys who had trapped forever with a ton of knowledge and this forum became a way to talk and share information that was only possible on small scales at conventions. As time went on the internet trapper grew. People who knew little had big voices and the guys who knew a lot stopped arguing and got tired of being told they were doing it wrong. So they stopped contributing. Things got old also, people got tired of answering the same question over and over which is why the archives are so valuable. The expansion of the internet trapper to YouTube also hurt things. People think because they see it on YouTube that it’s golden. Less trapping questions are posed now and get less answers. That’s why the forum seems to have transitioned to more of just a hangout, which is fine, just different. There are certainly more trapping related posts during season, it’s just different now.

Yep, I've had alot of folks only share stuff with me though pm alot of them say they just don't wanna deal with the KISS trappers basically

Some people post "interesting" threads, gets a couple answers, and that's good enough...must move on! I personally like all the advice I get on my seemingly dumb threads looking for ideas/advice, some just don't take the time, or don't care. I have learned A LOT on this site, with much more to go, but "The End of America" trumps everything anymore!
