So question for the other YouTubers , are your more popular videos ones you planned to try and be popular or just ones you kinda made just because , whatever. One of my most popular ones right now is just me sitting on my front porch shooting a .22lr. like no real planning or editing but people seem to love it. Just curious if others have noticed similar with there videos

... you gotta think big .. next level Wolfdog... I figure you aught to get a body cam and run naked through town on a Sunday to get the old folks reactions ... then end the clip with a close up of you picking your teeth with a sharpened up coon baculum after eating a corndog

Insert profound nonsense here

When you say most popular what kind of numbers are you talking about?

For me it's kinda hard to gauge which ones are going to do well. It all depends on YouTube's algorithm and how they pick it up as a suggested video. I have had several that took off for a while and got 100,000 views then just slowed way down. I had another that didn't do much for a year and then went off and now has 1.5 million views. Go figure. I have 14 that have over 100,000 views and really there doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason for it.

Is there compensation in demonstrating something on YouTube?

The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

There are people making millions on Youtube, and thousands of people making a darn good living. Your channel needs 1000 subscribers and 40,000 hours of watch time before YouTube will monetize it. Once it's monetized, they sell the ads and give you 60% of the revenue, roughly.

My channel BowhuntingRoad is relatively small (26,000 subscribers and 13 million views) but it makes enough to make my mortgage payment each month. It also helps justify the $$$ my sponsors pay me to use and promote their products.

I think your're incorrect on the watch time Bernie, it's 4,000 watch hours. I'm assuming thats a typo.
There were people that were upset when they implemented the 1,000 subs and 4,000 watch hour minimum, but honestly you'd only be making cents without being at those numbers anyways. Even with 1,000 subs and 4,000 watch hours a channel wouldn't be making much income.

Wolfdog, even though your most popular video was not planned and random, that strategy won't work in the long run. Sure you may have a few videos that get views, but some level of planning will be the better strategy in the long run.

You're right myside that is a typo. 4,000 hours.

Looked at your channel, nice job of editing and telling the story. You're in a really crowded space as you know by now.

I think these smaller startup channels these days are a real struggle and if you can do a collab with an established channel it can really help you grow. Doubt if you'll get Joe Robinet to go for it though! Another strategy that might be a good fit is to find a channel that's looking for good content and see if you can sell or trade with them, you'll probably end up with more in the long run than working to get monetized when that's such a steep hill to climb. Most people get tired of the work and give up before they ever get to monetization.

Haha yeah that'd be nice if I did a collab with Joe but it aint happening anytime soon.
I've been editing for probably 4 or so years now, but only started uploading to YouTube in the spring of 2020.

Yes silent bushcraft videos is a very crowded space right now. I might switch my style soon i dont know.

most popular was planned actually but it's kinda cornered the market per say look up how to build a cage trap and it's gonna be one of the first 3. I'm a small channel and just due to the what I do I doubt I'll ever get really big.Anyhow what I was referring to was just videos in general.

It's down to 8th now, which just goes to show that if you want your channel to grow you have to keep producing because others are. If you don't keep working it, your videos just keep getting overtaken by new ones. That's how the algorithm works.

Here's an idea.

Let's get away from youtube. They don't want you anyway.

How? I still don't have the answer but a start...

See here how I combined an advertisment for Bernie with a video from Wolfdog91?

https://www.trappersreport.com/story/TBT-Goes-Coon-Hunting-First-Time--video

You can post stuff to trappers report without having to login, ever. Just email me if you screw it up and I'll delete it. Free ads as you can see. See, we can help each other, but will it take off? I'm still hoping so but people (besides me) need to post stuff so we can get an audience, then I'll pay someone to build all kinds of tracking and stuff for you.

Anyone like the concept?

Yes that's right. But I own the site. That's not some website builder in a can, that was made by a professional developer (I pay in real life) in his spare time. We can build any platform or ad system in that people want. Meaning, I am putting forth the idea that other mechanisms for revenue generation (herein possibly say, Bernie being able to sell a Bear Hunt because someone wanted to watch WolfDog's video) besides youtube should be built.

Meaning, this: It today lets you post your own stories and ads. Is that not of great value to humanity, if people would use the site?

I understand what you're saying but here's the problem. Every major and even smaller companies dedicate a part of their advertising budget to Google/YouTube. Trying to sell the ads and compete with the giants of the business is darn near impossible.

Most all mine are unedited. My most views is a car accident near my house, but that one spread around the community and gained enough support to get the city, county and township to keep the road clear of ice and snow as its at the ends of all three's plow routes but still a main road and was very dangerous.

The videos I have that seem to have staying power or continue to get views are mostly cleaning fis h without bones in the fillets and ones with trapping tips.

I don't have an outdoor channel specifically my channel was and is for me to save videos important to me and so I can share them with friends and family. If someone finds them interesting thats cool but I like to look back at things The Boy was doing at certain ages and remember the good times with friends and people I've spent time with so most are really just a way for me to access and save videos when I switch phones.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

I'll stop posting now, I didn't mean to hijack the thread. But let me say that I don't see the problem. I'm not selling anything (today). You can put up 1,000 ads if you want. Just post something trappers want to read/watch, and post all the ads you want.
