Well, so far I am at $1,079 for my half. Still have to find out what processing bill is. No idea on what the critter weighed before or after. Buying from my cousin, so I didn't ask any questions. I was just happy they had one going in right away and I was able to get it. I'll fill in details when I know more.

Well at least you guys know where your meat is from. With the banning of country of origin labeling we have no idea what we're even eating.

Interesting jbyrd63, that's a familiar business name. I happen to know the Showalters fairly well. Yes Top notch butchers. The cuts they sell in their shop are beyond excellent !!! Friendly and when they give you a date it is normally sooner. We have got 3 beef from them in the last 2 years and ALL are some of the best steaks and burgers I have ever eaten !! In the past 3 years they have processed 17 deer for me. I keep 2 each year then I pay the butcher cost and give it to needy folks in our church / community. Abner cuts me a break on any deer over 3 because he knows what my wife and I are doing with them. Before anyone panties wad up I got 12 crop damage tags each year plus my six that comes with my tags.

I'm at the point, I am happy to help out my family and the small processor while I get meat that has an origin I can prove. I pick up my critter on Thursday, so I will see how the $$ side turns out. I, highly, doubt it will be more than it would cost at the local grocery store.

Ok, so I picked up my critter today. Processing was $327+$1079 for the farmer. Total=$1,406. Total #302 wrapped in freezer. Well, it's not all in the freezer yet, I still have a half a cooler of meat that needs some space. I'm no meat grader, but from what I can see in the Ribeyes, It would grade Prime. All roasts/steaks are cryovaced. Burger is in plastic 1# tubes. Hopefully, it will taste as good as it looks!

Peace of mind having that meat in the freezer with the country/economy/world the way it is right now.
Chris I'm not second guessing the purchase. I might be second guessing the 12 hour round-trip drive from central MN to East central Nebraska today.

The ticket said hanging weight was 808#. I reckon that would make each half 404# and would make the packaged #s of meat at about 75% hanging weight. It would also make processing right at $0.80/# of hanging weight, including any kill fees or other fees. This was, obviously, not a holestein. lol

I paid 3 dollars a pound hanging weight for the beef and processing about two months ago
