To fill my own 1# cylinders The adapter was about 20.00$and ive saved that in just 4 days over buying them at Walmart. It's so easy to do. Just make sure the big tank is warm and the 1# tanks are cold.

I just bought one 2 weeks ago and have yet to try it. I don't have a small scale yet to weigh them. A few videos I've seen said there's no need to freeze to small tanks. He said he's done that for years but stopped doing it because it makes no difference It does seem to ,are a difference.

Freeze the small cylinders, let the Bbq cylinder stay somewhat warm. After you fill (upside down) set outside for awhile to vent (cuz they will overfill). I, personally, have had trouble with my soldering torch acting funny, like there is some sort of contamination with the Bbq cylinder, but still recommend you try it for your own curiosity!

Sounds complicated. We fill 100lb and 20lb tanks off a 500g tank but don't do any freezing, thawing, or turning upside down. Y'all sure you need to be doing all that?

I was glad to read this. Thx for posting. I have been considering doing the same thing. Me too! I have an old newstock filler tool I've been meaning to try.

Angela, thanks. All the videos never answer or ask the question as to why turn the 20lb tank upside down. It doesn't make sense and seems very dangerous to me. Adam I don't know much about it just watch my husband fill them but they seem to fill just fine?

I've been filling them for years. Saves a lot of money. Nice to have about ten 1lb bottles lying around at anytime ready to go. I don't chill the bottles , just invert the 20lb one. Be careful when filling , easy to overfill , especially when using a very full 20lb tank.

You can bleed off the excess gas by pulling out on the relief valve for a bit, using needle nosed pliers. Be sure to wear heavy leather gloves when bleeding them or you will freezer burn your hand! I have also started weighing my bottles when I'm done. They should weigh 1-1/2# when full, if memory serves me. If you overfill, some appliances don't function properly until the pressure gets down to "spec".
