Former Chicago Bulls guard Corey Benjamin is apologizing on behalf of his daughter after the teen was caught on video punching an opponent during a basketball tournament.

Benjamin's daughter knocked out 15-year-old Lauryn Ham on the court, leaving her concussed.

"To the young lady who was punched by my daughter during a youth basketball game, I sincerely apologize to you and I am praying for your complete healing both physically and emotionally," Benjamin told NBCLA this week. "To her family, I deeply apologize and regret that this happened to your daughter as she did not deserve this to happen to her. Finally, I apologize to all of those who have been impacted and hurt by the actions of my daughter as well as those of her mother. I am here for your family and wish only the best for you."

Ham's attorney, Kevin Hahn, told the station that the incident goes far beyond one teenager punching another, and he would like to see all parties held accountable, including the facility where the game was held.

"The most shocking and outrageous part is to hear the mother instruct her daughter to go hit her for that, and that's unfathomable," Hahn said.

A tournament referee told NBC Los Angeles that the assailant's mother instructed her daughter to hit Ham.

According to Hahn, there was a prior incident involving Benjamin's daughter two months ago when she attempted to punch two different players during a tournament, resulting in a ban and suspension from future tournaments. Hahn says it's possible that the facility was not aware of the previous suspension.

Ham's mother, Alice, says she has filed a police report, stating the punch was assault. Hahn says the Ham family wishes to see both the daughter and the mother prosecuted.

"As a father, I’m shocked and disappointed at my daughter’s behavior as this is not a reflection of the values and standards that my family holds," said Benjamin. "Nor does it exemplify the values, character and spirit of sportsmanship that the game of basketball requires. My daughter made a mistake. One that she will need to make right. I am committed to getting my daughter any help she may need and support her in taking accountability for her conduct."

Benjamin played for Oregon State University and was selected 28th by the Bulls in the first round of the 1998 NBA draft. He spent one decade in the league.

The attacker and her mother will likely falsely claim the victim said a racial slur and the liberals will exonerate them as has happened in dozens of other cases recently.

Thats exactly what that was. You put a fat assed white girl and a small black girl in there to switch spots and thats all people would be crying. If i was the father in the stands id have a handful of dreadlocks while my knee met jaw. Man i hope theres a significant civil suit.

If you listen you can hear her mom tell her to do it. Read some of the comments on there. It's truly disgusting.

If I was her dad her butt would turn from black to blue. If my wife encouraged behavior like that I wouldn’t show my face in public.

I hope they get a super huge payday. And I hope it hurts for years to come.

From watching that video,,I can tell that's NOT the first time she has thrown a punch.Just sayin.

Her dads responce is just worring how much its going to cost him. Its normal conduct in his family.
